Mind you I guess there is no guaratee that Aussie Miracle Whip tastes like what they would market in the US.?!

Neither, given a choice. I’m not a big fan of either on sandwiches, nor do I like “mayonnaise-y” salads.

Miracle
Miracle
Miracle WHIP!

As for mayonnaise, I prefer _Duke’s_.
Unfortunately, _Duke’s_ isn’t available this far north in the US, so I must bring a few jars with me whenever I visit the South.

Yeah, but you eat _olives_.

Mayo all the way.

Copy what **Athena** said for me. My mom used Miracle Whip, margarine and instant potatoes. None of which are allowed in my house now. In her defense, she did make homemade onion rings and corndogs that were terrific.

> My mom, and her mom, always bought Miracle Whip. So I buy it, too. I only ever put it on bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches and in tuna for sandwiches. If I were going to make potato salad, I’d use it on that, except I haven’t got around to it yet. I can’t think of another use for it. Certainly not in or on Jello or hot dogs, like those freaks in the US midwest!

Same here, and I’m another who prefers Miracle Whip.

I just had to address this midwestern thing of putting MW on hot dogs (no clue about the Jell-O; that just sounds gross.) My mom told me, many years ago, that she put MW on hot dogs because hot dogs are basically the same as baloney, and one always puts Miracle Whip on baloney sandwiches. I don’t, and as a four-year-old, I figured if I liked ketchup on my hot dogs, I’d just use ketchup on my baloney sandwiches, too. Thankfully, my tastes have evolved in the past 30 years, and I no longer eat hot dogs or baloney. 😛

To me, mayo tastes like Miracle Whip that’s gone bad.

I like both, though I do taste a difference.

One of my roommates, though, swears by whipped salad dressing. Tastes like Mircale Whip, but cheaper.

I use both, but the mayo is used rarely. Miracle Whip goes on sandwiches, and indeed, is about the only condiment i will put on a sandwich (mustard is teh nasty!!!) If I have some good, crusty Italian bread and the right meats and cheese, then I will use red wine vinegar and oil on a Italian sandwich.

I think the reason most of the MW haters hate MW is because they want it to taste like mayo. It doesn’t! It’s not meant to! it has it’s own flavor. Yes, it is similar, but onyl because it also starts out as oil, eggs, and venegar, but it then has a lot more stuff added to it. GOOD stuff. It has, as Kraft puts it, a tangy zip. And it has less fat, so while all the mayo eaters will soon become one metric ton, I will happily stay my ideal weight.

I use mayo only on hot dogs and burgers, but only then if I mix it with equal amounts of ketchup, and maybe a dash of hot sauce.

[quote=BiblioCatMayo, preferably Hellman’s.

Never, ever, ever Miracle Whip.
[quote=Rhiannon8404Definitely Mayo…and it must be Best Foods (Hellman’s east of the Rockies).

I had Miracle Whip once, when I was a child, I gagged and nearly threw up. I haven’t gone anywhere near the stuff since.
I don’t eat either one. I am here on behalf of my husband, who is not a member of the SDMB. He would want me to tell you that Miracle Whip is not, I repeat, _not_ mayonnaise. It is “salad dressing.” Whatever the hell that means. Miracle Whip is disgusting, and it is not allowed in our home. Only real mayonnaise may pass through our doors. Seriously, if I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard him say these words …

I don’t know why he keeps telling me this. He knows that I won’t allow either one within a foot of my sandwich.

Mayo.

Miracle Whip is a petroleum product, not a food product.

We had a thread some time back about the differences in foods from region to region, what people liked that others thought was disgusting, etc. There were several posts about how some people throughout the midwest put MW on everything! Someone mentioned going to a wedding reception or some other function where people brought food. There was Jell-O with dabs of white stuff on top…MW. There were bowls of it out in the open so people could put it on their food. It seemed to happen only in several states, mostly connected, in the midwest.

I’d say that was an accurate description. It tasted oily and eggy and didn’t have much going for it, flavor-wise.

As I said, I like Miracle Whip on some things. Most things get Best Foods Real Mayonaise. But MW is better than mayo on some things.

Hot dogs? I like mayo on mine. Or catsup. Or nothing but a bun. Never Miracle Whip.

Jell-O? My mom had a recipe that she got from my aunt in the '50s. Lemon Jell-O, Lime Jell-O, diced red apple, diced green apple, cottage cheese, **Miracle Whip** , and walnuts. It looks disgusting. If Pepto Bismol were green instead of pink, that’s what colour it is. And the cottage cheese makes it a little lumpy. But it _tastes_ good! I wouldn’t put MW on plain Jell-O, but in mom’s salad it’s good.

Mayonnaise, of course. The best way I have found to consume it is on a Saltine cracker. Sounds kind of gross, but it’s delicious!
