# The rare Kudos for an airline

The phone call I just took:

" Allo, yes? This is Mr. Claude- Phillipe du Monde of Air Canada in Montreal. Is this. Mr. Cartooniverse? "

" Um. Yes. "

" Yeeees, did you leave a rain jacket on your seat on your last Air Canada flight? It was from Vancouver to Toronto. "

" No. I don’t think so".

" This was a red Eddie Bauer rain jacket, and it was in your seat pocket. Are you sure? "

" Yes, thank you, I haven’t ever owned a red raincoat. "

" I zee. Thank you so much for your time. Goodbye ! "

Holy CRAP. I flew Air Canada about 3 weeks ago. Someone left their raincoat, and these guys did a few moments of legwork, which means that the seat and row # and flight # were written down and attached to the raincoat for later tracking.

Nice. Well done- and yeah, it’s weeks later. But truth is, someone there is making an effort to go through tagged Lost and Found items to try to return them.

In general, I’ve enjoyed Air Canada’s service, though for rather obvious reasons (see location) it’s also really my only choice for a lot of trips I might take. Even WestJet doesn’t really go anywhere from here without a connection, or only goes on Tuesdays or somesuch (try getting to Charlottetown on the weekend) so I never even bother to look at their ticket prices.

In the past couple of years I’ve flown Air Canada, Delta, United, American Airlines, British Airways and RyanAir. I think British Airways were the friendliest and most efficient, but this is probably par for the course for a small flight from Berlin to London. Delta wasn’t bad, American was the worst of the North American ones, RyanAir was a horrid but awesomely cheap experience, and I think the United flight was actually an Air Canada crew anyways.

Still, I’m rather patient with airlines, airports and the kind of stuff that can happen. Thus far, I haven’t said “I’ll never fly that airline again”, though I do vow to do everything in my power to never have a return international connection through the United States. Departure connection, sure, but not return. Too much Security Theatre.
