The king was in Northern Ireland today and CNN made a big deal of him referring to “this place” rather than Northern Ireland or just Ireland, presumably threading the needle between those who would prefer re-unification and those who would not. ---

It was Louis Mountbatten, who in many ways was more of a father to Charles than Philip was, who advised Charles to “sew his wild oats” before settling down to marry a “suitable girl.” ---

Yes. The best description of it that I have read said that the the initial seasons at least were very accurate in a general sense\*, but less so in a specific sense. That is they get a lot of the overall details right, but particulars might be off. So while it’s right that there was a period of great difficulty in the marriage of Philip and his Missus, there is not much evidence that he actually strayed. \*Mainly because except for HM and the Duke, when was filmed everyone else portrayed was long dead and in many cases their children with them.
