“King Edward Sat Here” was the line painted on a beer barrel displayed in the bar after the King’s car broke down and was towed into the yard of the Red Lion hotel while a local blacksmith worked on repairing it. The King sat on a barrel watching. Next night every pub in the town (of which there were many in those days) had a similarly marked barrel. ---

I think it was here, but I remember many years ago a poster told how, when the Queen was visiting a museum and needed to use the facilities, somebody had to determine how far the sound would travel and everybody had to move out of earshot. ---

In either case, can’t someone just run the faucet for a couple of minutes? Or isn’t there a military band present? Just have them play a march for a few minutes. ---

The only people afforded the “occasion for pomp” in this context are the British. There is an apt Hindi/Urdu saying for this : " Ek Toh Chori Upar Se Seenazori " It means the thief is asserting his position with chest thumping 🙂 Anyways, 1911 India Office had Burma (Myanmar) and Ceylon (Sri Lanka) and since the wiki link says that India Office paid for the crown, I am guessing they all have a claim to it. I am not taking this bait, I agree some of the things they have done is not quite right, but overall its been positive for India. I can personally attest to the growth and development in many parts of India. Just last week the Supreme Court of India amended and expanded Indian abortion laws “All women have right to safe, legal abortion”. It has been legal in India since 1971. [Abortion: India Supreme Court says amended law to cover single women too](https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-63071113) That’s progressive in my book Gay rights have also expanded under the BJP and currently there is a case at the Supreme Court which will likely soon legalize gay marriage. ---

Hmm now that they mention it… other than HM himself I don’t think there’s right now any figure not in the direct line who’d command a similar shebang. Oh sure, there are some old royal uncles/aunts that are looking precarious, but they won’t get the Real Big Deal thing. ---

You mean June 3, 2023? That seems quick in comparison to past coronations, but maybe because Charles has had a lot of time to plan there was already plans in the can, so to speak. ---

And it’s not like he needs to try too hard to impress anyone, the average European monarch taking over in this century barely gets a fancy swearing-in and a parade. C3 knows very well that at this point a large proportion of the public is in no mood to pretend they’re looking at some fairytale event or anything “holy”. ---

The next June is nine months away, instead of four months like it was at the last accession. Also, I’ve read that with an _expectation_ that it will be televised for all to see, there’s less of a need to have a massive in-person audience, which at prior coronations required major construction inside the Abbey to build stadium-style seating galleries. If you look at [this painting](https://www.rct.uk/collection/themes/exhibitions/the-queens-coronation-1953/buckingham-palace/the-coronation-of-queen-elizabeth-ii-westminster-abbey-2-june-1953) of the last coronation, almost everyone above floor level is sitting on something that was built especially for the event. ---

Though the core of the ceremony is a religious service which is unlikely to change, I’d hope (against hope) some of the more glaringly redundant pseudo-mediaevalisms (I blame George IV) might disappear.
