Footnote to the discussion above about the royal cypher: I’m watching TV coverage of the Lord Mayor’s Show (ceremonial parade marking the installation of this year’s Lord Mayor), and I see that while the State Trumpeters have Charles’s cypher on their uniforms, the cloths on the trumpets themselves are still ER. No doubt there’s some arcane reason beyond sheer economy. ---

Agreed (not that you’re a sexist git), she’s never looked better. Even back in the day I thought “well, she’s not ‘Hollywood Beautiful’, but neither is Charles considered particularly handsome, so I think they make a good match”. Now they’re a smart looking couple. ---
