I think you’re burying the lede here, which is that _you learned something_, which many of us didn’t think was possible. I’m going to have to assume that he got the original joke (because, yes, it’s quite obviously a joke. That’s one of the most famous photos in American history) and is just purposely being difficult and is amusing himself and only himself in the process. ---
