Really? Jeez, I’ve been singing it wrong for 20 years. Yeah, fingernails and cigarettes really would make a lousy dinner. I always thought it was an example of what a beat down depressed drunk might find in his apartment to eat.

Hey, I always thought it was bacon and cigarettes as well!!!

They both make sense-the mondegreen for the reason BoringDad stated and the real one because of the age of the chick in the song and the half-seducing/half-nervous tone of the song.
