The 2016 Republican National Convention will be held in Cleveland, Ohio at the Quicken Loans Arena July 18-21, 2016. What will the format be? In past conventions, there have been speeches over several days, from all of the Republican luminaries and VIP’s. Prime speaking slots are often given to some “up and comers” so that they can be spotlighted. Speakers usually laud the presumptive nominee, and trash the opposition. Finally, the person is nominated, there are more rousing speeches, and it culminates in a well prepared acceptance speech from the candidate. It’s now become more of a coronation, in effect. [This time, it may be different.](http://www.npr.org/2016/06/17/482547124/trump-considering-speaking-off-site-during-his-own-convention) Irrespective of the on-going campaign to prevent Trump from being the nominee (Dump Trump), it sounds like the convention might be a Trump-tacular time, with Mr. Trump dominating the proceedings in their entirety, giving a speech every night, overshadowing literally everyone else in the party, and culminating in a “night of winners”, with such D-list celebrities such as “controversial and hot-tempered former college basketball coach Bobby Knight; former pro football player Herschel Walker; Dana White of the UFC mixed martial arts company; boxing promoter Don King; former college basketball coach Digger Phelps; and others.” It’s going to be an interesting convention to be sure. I wonder if it will be on pay-per-view. ---

If Trump gets his way, it could be the best the Republicans can hope for. Up and coming Republicans don’t want too close of an association with the trainwreck that is The Donald’s campaign. He could use each night of the convention to rile up the diehards and put on a great big Reality TV spectacular. And if there is a floor fight over his nomination, he won’t be there to witness and/or be a part of. ---

Don King? Last I heard, he was firmly denying that he had endorsed Trump and wanted nothing to do with him. Did that change? ---

According to the linked article, Trump had not confirmed with ANY of the people he mentioned. He was just confident that they ALL would LOVE to be associated with him and were WINNERS. ---
