To wit, my sister-in-law in Texas has posted on Facebook in the last couple of weeks that: - people shouldn’t get “welfare” based on how many kids they have, because that just encourages people to have children they can’t support - it’s unfair that the financial aid calculation for college doesn’t account for how many kids you have in college at the same time There’s something in the water there. Two siblings who were definitely left of center moved there 15-20 years ago and are now racist anarcho-capitalists, but at the same time raging war-mongers and authoritarians. ---

Those aren’t contradictory positions when you consider that the underlying theme is “I should be able to do whatever I want to whomever I want without consequence or accountability”. Well, I personally have been afflicted with at least a couple extra butt pounds due specifically to naan-i-afghani. That is some damn good flatbread. Come to think of it, the culinary enrichment possibilities from letting in lots of additional Palestinians look pretty promising too. Musakhan, maqluba, rummaniyya? In the words of a previous “former guy”, “Bring it on”. (Disclaimer: Not intending to be a callous asshole here making light of the very real and catastrophic suffering of the Palestinians, nor for that matter the suffering of the Israeli victims of specific Palestinian terrorists, either. Just thinking about the fact that over the centuries white Americans have constantly been pitching hissy fits about all the terrible things that are bound to happen if a new bunch of browner people are allowed to settle here, and after the dust settles the most significant cultural change we seem to see is somewhat improved food options.) ---
