Putting the fear of deportation into thousands of people just before the holidays? C’mon, man! I’d say try to be better, but I’d like a reasonably plausible miracle this year (like a certain human cantaloupe to implode). It’s worth mentioning that, while that story was posted a couple of days ago, the relevant events happened in September, before the passage of the state constitutional amendment that would have resolved the whole thing. And which the news story was negligent in not mentioning. ---

Iowa might have passed an amendment that solves that particular problem, but that the incident happened at all is a chilling sign of what Pro-lifers want. Too many women are facing legal obstacles to getting life-saving healthcare to deal with a non-viable fetus because of fear that the states will do exactly like this case and pursue criminal charges against the mother or even the health care workers. Hell, they shouldn’t have to justify at all, but this shows the extremes that people fear will happen are very real possibilities. ---

It’s a sad story, as old as time. Trying to be “one of the good ones” is a survival mechanism many have tried. Unfortunately they all uncover the hash reality that they’ll never be accepted. I’ve seen it play out too many times to count. It’s even more tragic when they do it because they think it’ll help their children’s future, only to have them all get consumed by the hatred. ---
