Hunter, Obama, Satan and Zaphod Beeblebrox are all running the White House. They come together [Captain Planet](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Planet_and_the_Planeteers#Captain_Planet)-style to form the Super Biden who gave the State of the Union Address.

And formed the likeness of Biden not stumbling down the capital steps. Sleepy Joe would have gone ass over teakettle attempting that gymnastic feat.

I just learned about this. It’s possible thsat it’s not as bad as it appears, but I wouldn’t bet on that:

> Yesterday, a [committee in the state House](https://www.nola.com/news/politics/legislature/la-lawmakers-vote-to-remove-lunch-breaks-for-child-workers/article_ef234692-fd9e-11ee-99f5-771c7366107a.html?utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=user-share)decided that the ungrateful child peasants who work don’t deserve a lunch break. That’s right. Not only is child labor back in Louisiana (and other red states), the poor souls stuck doing the work don’t even get the privilege of lunch if the GOP has their way.

Quoting from the original article:

> [@](#):
>
> First-term state Rep. Roger Wilder, R-Denham Springs, who sponsored the child labor measure and owns Smoothie King franchises across the Deep South, said he filed the bill in part because children want to work without having to take lunch breaks. He questioned why Louisiana has the requirement while other states where he owns Smoothie King locations, such as Mississippi, don’t have them, and criticized people who have questioned the bill’s purpose.

“Said he filed the bill in part because children want to work without having to take lunch breaks.”

Yeah, right.

I can easily visualize children coming up to him and saying that.

There’s much more. The bill would also reduce the period people can receive unemployment benefits.

Maddowblog is now reporting on this story, with a few additions. Here’s a little more to creep you out:

> [@](#):
>
> As for why officials in so many states are “reforming” their child-labor laws — an issue that appeared to be relatively settled until quite recently — there’s reason to believe the sudden flurry is not coincidental.
>
> The Washington Post last year [highlighted](https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2023/04/23/child-labor-lobbying-fga/) the role of something called the Foundation for Government Accountability, which is taking the lead on “maneuvering” these changes through state legislatures.
>
> > The Florida-based think tank and its lobbying arm, the Opportunity Solutions Project, have found remarkable success among Republicans to relax regulations that prevent children from working long hours in dangerous conditions. And they are gaining traction at a time the Biden administration is scrambling to enforce existing labor protections for children. … Since 2016, the FGA’s Opportunity Solutions Project has hired 115 lobbyists across the country with a presence in 22 states, according to the nonpartisan political watchdog group OpenSecrets.
>
> With this in mind, there’s no reason to expect these measures to disappear anytime soon.

Exactly. Like an 11 year old working a shitty job is agonizing on the loss of productivity and income potential by taking off unpaid time to eat. I scoffed so hard I pulled a muscle. It’s like they way they don’t say “anti-union” when pushing legislation, they whitewash it into “right to work”.

Can someone explain WHY – other than it simply being evil – Republicans are pushing to have more children work, and under worse conditions?

- Do business owners prefer juvenile employees to adults?
- Are there just not enough adults available to work these jobs?
- Can they pay kids less than minimum wage?
- Is it somehow an anti-immigration play?

And, corollary question: Why are adult voters (i.e., the kids’ parents) OK with making their kids’ working conditions worse?

It meshes perfectly with their brand of [southern capitalism](https://www.dukeupress.edu/Southern-Capitalism/) of being “business friendly” for those in the in-groups, while being a dystopian hellhole for anybody in the out-groups.

Well, it’s not _their_ kids of course. 😉

Because bringing back slavery conflicts with their melanated voter outreach . . . most of the time.

OK, save me the time of reading that book. How is employing children “business friendly”?

- Are there just not enough adults available to work these jobs?

Less likely to complain about working conditions. Especially the ones from countries where the working conditions are _worse._
They’re not supposed to be here in the first place so it serves them right.
Easier to beat the shit out of when they act up.
Fit into those small areas that adults can’t fit in, thus mining more coal.
