Ugh. Yes, Republicans are **against** abortion and **for** increasing barriers to it.

Yeah, Republican evil is a spectrum, but Nixon embraced and developed the Southern Strategy. For over half a century, the party has been built on white supremacy, voter suppression and corruption.

> Here’s what you’d say in that thread: “Oh come on guys. People who believe the earth are flat aren’t stupid, they just have a different idea about the topic than you do that’s just as valid. You say they’re stupid but if you go over to a flat earther board, they’d have a thread like this saying you’re stupid too! Both sides think the other one is stupid and wrong and you can’t even see that that makes you both the same!”
>
> Here’s the problem with your logic. Reality matters. The Earth IS round. The flat earthers and the round earthers aren’t equally valid, equally smart, equally dedicated to the truth.

The difference is that Earth’s roundness is a factually provable claim. Just go out in a spacecraft, fly ten thousand miles and take a gander at Earth - it’s round. Everyone has the same _definition_ of round. Flat Earthers aren’t saying “The Earth is round, but what you call flat, I call round.”

Morality, though, isn’t something that people can factually convince each other on. “Morality” is what has led countless people to slaughter each other throughout millennia. Morality is what leads one side to intensely support Legislation ABC while the other side intensely opposes ABC.

Now, when it comes to competence, the Democrats generally have their act more together than the Republicans. But when it comes to evil, there’s an impassable bridge. The most the D’s and R’s can agree on would be that, for instance, “election integrity is good” but then - what does that mean? One side thinks it means voter ID, one side thinks it means no voter ID.

I feel like you’re posting from 1998, or something. We’re not debating the morality of tricky issues where both sides can put forth good faith differences of opinions. We’re witnessing the Republican party remake itself as a cult to a pathological liar. We’re seeing them embrace qanon, which is among the most toxic and absurd conspiracy theories of all time. The things they’re collectively deciding to do, like believe the election was stolen through Jewish Space Lasers, are every bit as factually wrong and reality-denying as flateartherism. We’re not talking about people who disagree on abortion, we’re talking about people who disagree that Trump is actually a secret genius mastermind God’s chosen who sends us secret messages in the form of qanon to fight the satanic democratic blood ritual child sacrificing sex cults.

These supposed good faith republicans of yours who just have a different set of morality are conducting insurrections, denying reality, believing obvious untruths, racing to see who can be even more detached from reality, who believe that some crank 4chan poster making crazy ass conspiracy theories for the lols are actually their secret messages from god that they have to act on. This is not just a fringe, this is who the party is now. To be unable to see that, again, is dogmatic. You, too, are apparently immune to the reality in front of you if you’re denying what we all plainly see.

Conservatives are by nature more tribal and more deferential to authority and more tribal, more concerned about their in-groups vs out-groups. We’re seeing now that that instinct is so strong, that, bolstered by an unprecedented level of echo chamber outside of places like North Korea, they can be convinced to follow their tribe anywhere, because their single driving goal in life is to defeat and spite their enemies above all else. And now their enemies are the rest of us who are attached to reality.

No, they’re not.

The article identifies the people being placed in detention centers as teenagers who were trying to cross the border unaccompanied.

So it’s only Republican true.

That distribution is statistically so improbable as to be impossible, your coordinates are not plausible. You must have put the 50 at the wrong place, I very much hope for the peaceful future of your country. And the gap you postulate between 50 and 90 is literally unbelievable with a sample size of over 300 Million people.
BTW, as seen from here in Europe, what you call left (the Democratic Party) is quite to the right (we would call them Christian Democrats, not Communists). Can it be that the whole country is skewed to the right?
That cannot end well.
Anyway: I concur with the OP in his general analysis.

The evidence I use to support my hypothesis is that Trump Republicans like MTG, Madison Cawthorn, Lauren Boebert, and so on both primaried more conventional Republicans and then won their general elections. Let’s consider the people who voted for the more moderate opponents that MTG, Cawthorn, Boebert, and so on defeated. If those voters really were somewhere in the middle, than they would have voted for their Democratic opponents in the general election. Someone who claims to be a moderate Republican but then votes for a fascist rather than a Joe Manchin or Kyrsten Sinema style Democrat is not really a moderate Republican. That person is just lying to themselves.

Also, they’re not removing young (right down to infant) children from their parents like the Republicans did. They’re not losing the records for those children making it extremely difficult to reunite them with their families, like the Republicans did. They’re not shipping them off to private adoption agencies run by cronies of the administration, like the Republicans did. They’re not sending three-year-olds to court on their own, like the Republicans did. They’re not pocketing the money intended to maintain the detained children, instead leaving them in squalor, hunger and illness, like the Republicans did. And they haven’t lied and lied and lied to pretend that they’re just doing exactly what the other guys were doing, like the Republicans did.

But I’m sorry - we were talking about the “Party of Evil”?

> I’d say that holds true for liberal arguments, too. Try telling a liberal that rent control makes things worse for the poor instead of better. Or that nuclear power is safer.

Your attempts at false equivalency continue to fail. I’m certainly a liberal by American standards, and on the first point, I’d say that yes, it can be true if rent control is applied excessively and indiscriminately. But the absence of any rent control at all can be equally bad or worse for the poor, because a large supply of housing doesn’t help them if they can’t afford any of it. As with many complex policies, the devil is in the details. But it doesn’t help if one doesn’t see it as complex at all, and just simply and automatically sides with the landlords and the oligarchy, citing the wonders of “free markets” as a justification.

On the second point, I’ve always been a strong proponent of nuclear power, particularly as a means of combating climate change. And I’m certainly not alone – more than 60% of power generation where I live is nuclear.

And speaking of climate change, remind us again, which is the party that historically has been aligned with climate change deniers, contemptuous of science, and recently was represented by a president who declared climate change to be “a Chinese hoax” and put the US in the unenviable position of being the only country in the world to pull out of the Paris climate agreement? Considering that climate change is generally acknowledged to be one of the most pressing problems humanity has ever faced, isn’t lying about it and actively working to make it worse (e.g.- by encouraging more coal production and rolling back environmental regulations) pretty much the definition of evil?

They are holding unaccompanied children while their families are found. This is sane.

What Trump, and the evil Republican party did, was take accompanied children, and put them in inhuman conditions away from their family.

Do you understand that that’s what the evil Republican party did? Because you appear to think that there is some level of similarity.

Don’t you understand that your attempt at sanity doesn’t matter? Trump could have had the children skinned, barbecued, and served at Mar-a-Largo and the only thing a conservative will focus on is how a liberal misstated that as skewered. Truth, reality, facts, rationality, even-handedness, context, rightness and righteousness, none of that matters a bit. There is only one goal left in the Republican Party and its worshippers: owning the libs.

That’s why they’re evil. They’ve descended beneath their previous thin veneer of humanity into their raw, primal state of mindless hatred and vengeance.

Any attempt to reason with such is doomed to failure. Worse, they take it as validation of their position. ~A liberal tried to use facts on me. Ha! Got 'em!~ We need to learn better.
