So just to ask, suppose the closing threat was public knowledge, and her husband, reading the news over brandy, mutters to himself, “they won’t close that plant if I have anything to say about it,” it would still be illegal of her to subsequently buy the steel company’s stock, right? ---

IANAL but I think that yes, that would still be illegal because she would be acting on knowledge the rest of the public did not have access to: that a sitting Representative was going to champion the company’s cause. OTOH, I will not be surprised when one of our real lawyers shows up and tells me I’ve got it wrong. 😃 ---

Also NAL, but I can play one on the internet: 1. Show me the actual statute that was violated here! Until you can provide a clear citation to the actual law that was broken, with citations, then you cannot comment. 2. It’s not a crime unless she’s charged. No charge = nothing wrong here. 3. She’s innocent until proven guilty! What is this, a witch hunt? She’s entitled to due process. 4. You don’t know all the facts. She might have gotten the information from her psychic. 5. So she’s been found guilty by a jury. There’s this little thing called an appeal. Ever heard of it? 6. OK, so her appeals have been exhausted and she’s on her way to prison. Big deal, this is old news. Why are you people going on and on about it. Give it a rest already. 7. \< crickets \> ---

My counter to discussions like this is simple and uses ideas they have already bought into: _In Biblical terms, in 2020, God struck the United States’ people with a plague for the sin of electing the immoral Donald Trump to the most important leadership position on the planet, and, on election day, 81,000,000 Americans heeded God’s call to rid ourselves of an immoral, incompetent President who lied to the tune of 400,000 deaths._ _And you cannot deny this as you lived it as I did.
