Not joining the site to be able to read the article. That said, thank you for the excerpts. They really highlight the whole “saying the quiet part out loud” thing. Of course, I’ve been insisting for years that the “conservative” label doesn’t apply to them (although I quibble that “revolutionary” is less apropos than “reactionary”), up to and including pestering people to stop using it on them. ---

The specific policy complaints don’t matter at all. Ultimately these are all examples of “_They_ can’t be allowed to tell _Us_ what to do,” where ‘they’ is pronounced with sneering derision. The innocuousness of the issues is irrelevant. The right-wing noise machine has demonized the Left, so clearly everything the Left wants is Evil, and You Good People cannot tolerate it. That’s the simpleminded perspective you have to recognize behind the whining. ---
