Thing is, done right, a right-wing Daily Show would be great. After all, there are some gasbags on the left that need puncturing, and I could see giving someone like P.J. O’Rourke a daily half-hour and a needle. ---

It just so happens that lately Republicans have been in power. Should that change, I expect Stewart would poke fun at self-important and stupid Democrats and his audience would change. ---

With the Democrats surging into power, this was inevitable. After all, what will Stewart do when people like Hillary, Pelosi, and Kennedy are in charge of everything? He’ll just have to fold up his tent and bow out. ---

Look, I admit that The Daily Show with Jon Stewart is left of center, but the show wasn’t created with that in mind. It just kind of worked out that way. As such, it can still take potshots at lefties (and it does, from clueless hippies to John Kerry’s inability to speak a succinct sentence) or even transition from a show making fun of right-wing dominated government to mocking a left-wing dominated one, without betraying its core mission or audience. It’s the difference between rock by a Christian musician and Christian Rock, if you get my meaning. ---
