I make jokes about this, ostensibly without
believing it, but fear that it is actually true. It must be noted that there are many liberals who are unable to laugh at their own issues as well, but they don’t seem to be nearly as high a percentage.
I don’t buy this. One of the big demographic changes that gave conservatives their recently lost congressional power was their appeal to have nots on moral (religious) issues.
Don’t forget we have a long and rich American tradition of humor (much of it genuinely funny) ridiculing the poor and the powerless – Poles, Italians, blacks, women (in the days when they were powerless), gays, rednecks, etc., etc. . . .
Don’t forget, either, that many have-nots are deeply conservative.
What Fox probably doesn’t get, and what a lot of people who scream “the Daily Show is left-wing” don’t seem to get is that the Daily Show is first and foremost a satire of the MEDIA more than any particular political spectrum. I have a feeling Fox is going to miss that part of it, and so fail. Also, sketch comedy? Starring classless buffoons? Please.
Sure, but things that were acceptable back in the day aren’t necessarily acceptable now.
Yeah, and I continue to be baffled by it.
