There’s another big difference – playoff systems. To win the title in a European football league, you have to be the best over the course of a season. In a playoff system, you can win the title without being the best throughout the season.
True, but it’s not FA Cup style either; to make the playoffs you typically have to be a pretty good team to begin with, although there are weird situations where one division or another may totally stink and the best team is barely over .500.
The only small criticism of the Spurs was that they never could never win 2 titles in a row.
The Spurs have done some amazing things over the last couple decades, but one thing that was brought to my attention recently is the thing I find most amazing. The Spurs are currently on a 19 season streak of winning road records. This is the most in NBA history. Second is 12 by the Laker in the 80’s and 90’s. Only seven teams had winning road records for the 2016-2017 season.
