I just checked the “Special Guests” page on their official web site, and it is completely blank. All those people that were going to show up to promote all those projects are on strike. Let’s see how well SDCC’s no refund policy holds up. ---

If they really have a no-refund policy, then likely the organizers of the Con will be fine in the short term. Who I feel for is the small vendors who paid for space on the expectation of a certain crowd density. They don’t have a dog in this hunt, but are just another case of collateral damage. The studios (based on what I’ve read) are really fucking over a lot of people in their grab for more profit. ---

There is a big Star Trek convention in August and from what I read the stars are able to attend as scheduled but they aren’t allowed to talk about any shows they preformed on so I guess everyone will just watch Shatner sing Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. ---

At random I happen to be in beautiful downtown Springfield MA today. Kinda downtrodden, but the indicia of prior glory are everywhere. Makes Burbank look pretty nice actually. Anyhow, there’s a regional comic con going on here. Apparently rather non-commercial as these things go, more homebrew-enthusiast than slick production. I’m seeing lots of con attendees is homemade outfits. _Large_ homemade outfits. I can top that with an even littler known fact: Years ago, **CairoCarol** had a fairly significant romantic relationship with a guy whose rabbi was William Shatner’s uncle. In retrospect, the biggest question is: why did my partner even tell me that? “Hey sweetie, just thought you might want to know: my rabbi is William Shatner’s uncle!” (Also: why do I still remember this? Surely there is a more significant fact that could be occupying whatever neurons are consumed by my continued knowledge of that.) ---
