As has been pointed out too many times, a post from me or, say, **Dinsdale** that began “When my wife and I were at church last Sunday…” would never be criticized for flaunting our heterosexuality. But if **Esprix** began a post about something that went on at his UU church with, “When my boyfriend and I were at church last Sunday…” it’s _obviously_ flaunting his gayness. :rolleyes: Gay people are human beings. The people they love and spend time with, sometimes the rest of their lives, happen to be of the same sex as them. That’s the only significant difference, aside from a perceived status as a persecuted minority – which posts like the one above help to enhance. **Scott** is expressing a platonic fondness for a coworker who is a moral support and helpful in his love life. If someone started a similar thread about a friend/coworker of the same sex who was similarly helpful in their heterosexual love life, would it be construed in the same way as this one was? ---

Actually, it’s “dyke dude.” 😉 I have an east coast fag hag, but am taking applications for a west coast fag hag. There are some early contenders, but I’m not placing any bets yet. Gotta have a best gay pal and a best gal pal - that’s all there is to it. 1. I (a happy hetro guy) had a lesbian salon stylist who cut my hair. We would vetch about women together. She was cool and fun. Never bothered coming up with a catch phrase for her-- seems a bit demeaning doesn’t it? “Hag” is hard to phrase in a sentence in a complementary manner, IMHO. Still, a sense of humor makes life go alot easier- and if someone is cool with being called a “fag-hag” who am I to complain. 2. While **elf6c** likes **scott evil’s** posts, only Superstar Athletes and Supervillans should refer to themselves in the third person with such regularity. Unless **scott evil** is playing for the Mets or planning to take over the world with some giant orbital lazer beam, in which case **elf6c’s** comment is cheerfully withdrawn. 😉 ---

The point was that my particular hetro-lesbain friendship did not have, nor did it need, a catch-phrase, especially where I ended up calling someone a “hag”. As a term of endearment it is a bit less then “endearing” IMHO, but humor is a personal thing. Thanks for the effort to help though. After living 2+ years in the Bay Area I think I have _most_ of the lingo down, but of course there is always something new to pick up since I left. _-me_ ---

Your relationship with your fag-hag sound very much like the type of relationship I have with someone who’s an almost-ummfriend. If we lived closer together (he’s about 5 states away), we might date, but we don’t and we don’t believe in long-distance relationships. He’s been my most constant email correspondant, sends me music playlists, and listens to my boy problems. I send him music playlists and listen to his girl problems. We listen to each other’s non-romantic problems. So, I can understand how nice it is to have a relationship like that, even though in my case we’re of opposite sexes and heterosexual. ---

I want to be someone’s fag hag! Seriously, I need and want a gay fellow in my life. It’s been so long. I miss my friend Eduardo with whom I waited tables. We had the exact same taste in boys and were constantly checking out our customers. And he would take me to the drag brunches at Perry’s in DC. We always called each other “girlfriend” as in “girlfriend! Check out the hunk of man meat sitting at table 12!”. Then he moved to Miami Beach with his man and I never saw him again. Woe is the former fag hag. ☹ ---
