If you were to do any song live, karaoke-style, which would it be? In the SDKL, no one cares if you are off-key, if you know all the words, or if you can dance. You just need stage presence. 🙂 I’ve always loved “Expression” by Salt-n-Pepa. I would want RTFirefly, Falcon and Anthracite doing back-up vocals in sequined gowns with big Marge Simpson hair. There’s this part where Pepa goes, “Now bring in the GO GO, UH OH, look at how my butt go, rock from the left to the right.” I could teach you guys the little booty shake I made up for that part! What about the rest of you? ---

I’ve done “Life Is A Highway” as real karaoke, and got ab unch of friends to do Dwight Yoakam’s version of “Crazy Little Thign Called Love” (yes, the Queen song) with me once using the regular cd as background sound, just so we could do the “Love Thang” line dance that I made up for it. I’d like to do a Nirvana song and just make up random words. You can’t understand Cobain’s vocals anyway, so who’s to say I’m not singing the right lines? “you’re a donut, entertain us!” ---

Ones I regularly do (that I remember off the top of my head): Mack the Knife Abracadabra Bad, Bad Leroy Brown Stray Cat Strut You and Me and the Bottle Makes 3 Cat’s in the Cradle Peaceful Easy Feeling The Devil Went Down to Georgia (unlike most of the damn Yankees I hear singing this song, I actually do it with an accent) There are plenty of others that I’ve sung once or twice. Ones I want to learn: Scenes from an Italian Restaurant Angel Eyes (I did this one once, but need much improvement) Stormy Weather There are others, but these are the only ones I can think of right now. ---

I can be counted to preform anything by Janis Joplin, when drunk I like to think I sound like her. I’ll start out with Mercedez Benz…let me just warm up my vocal cords with some whiskey first. ---

I’m working my way up to attempting Queensryche’s _Silent Lucidity_. Right before the loopy dreamy interlude it just ascends out of my range. In the meanwhile, I’ll bet nobody else in here has the 'nads for the other one I’ve been doing recently - _One Week_ by Barenaked Ladies! I like those kind with a buncha words all together, like _Walking on the Sun_ by SmashMouth and _Inside Out_ by Eve6. ---

The only song I’ve ever been tempted to do, as is was on a karaoke playlist, was “Great Big Kiss”, because Johnny Thunders did it. And it would be fun to do the “Mwa…” (“Walk right up to him. Give him a great big kiss. Mwa…!”) And the “Is he tall?” “Well, I have to look up.” The only song i think I could really do is “After Hours”, cause i think my voice is almost as good as Mo Tucker’s. ---

There is only one song that I have done Karaoke to… but it needs a bit of a story, and knowledge of the fact that I do voices and accents… So there I was, visiting a lady friend who I was hoping to get at… (lecherous leer) at her mom’s place. Her mom, May Yee… That’s right, Tristan, the short dumpy white guy, sitting in the middle of an Asian bar, on Karaoke night. You don’t know pain, until you’ve gotten Chinese pop music blasted at you at 110 db, sung badly by drunk Chinese folks. Well, I’d had a few drinks, and was feeling brave, when my friend pointed out one of the songs, and dared me to do it. Hoping that it would improve my odds, I knocked back my vodka and filled out the slip. A few moments later, my turn came, and I went up on the little stage. Looking out, I realized I was the only caucasion in the place. My music started, and jaws hit the ground as I belted out a perfect rendition of “Kyle’s Mom” by Erik Cartman. I finished, and you could have heard a chopstick hit the ground… Was fun though. I’ve done it a few times since then… heheheh ---
