Ummmm…k. What makes you think we were under the impression such was the case? I don’t recall anyone proclaiming “seen FIRST on the SDMB!” There are so many message boards devoted to so many different subjects, it would be amazing to me if it were _not_ discussed elsewhere. But that isn’t going to stop most board members from discussing those subjects here; we may get a fresh perspective that isn’t found elsewhere. ---

I have seen several people on this board argue that it started here. Because Cecil did a report about it. I didnt say anything was wrong with having it on here. ---

It’s a common disease around here. Many people think that because they saw something here first that it must have started here. Every couple of years or so someone will start a thread asking for phrases or ideas that started at the SDMB and well over half of the mentions will have started elsewhere, often years before the SDMB existed. ---

I don’t think it was first there though either. I think it’s quite likely that it was seen on the SDMB by those guys (Mythbusters) but I don’t see any reason to _assume_ that it was. I know when it showed up here, it was because somebody had seen it on another board. Boy were they ever in a funk. That board wasn’t the originator either. The members here solved the problem in an instant. Unfortunately there were arguments on which answer was the correct one. 😃 My solution was for if we were in a hurry and needed to actually go somewhere in the near future. Turn the plane perpendicular to the track. ---

I did it for a few months, but it turned out to be rather less fun and interesting than I’d hoped, once the novelty wore off. Nevertheless, it a was a neat experience I wouldn’t trade for anything. I’m still a big fan of the show. ---
