To my mind, Parliament/Funkadelic was as influential as the Velvet Underground, so that took care of two votes.
I gave my third vote to Janis Joplin. What’s not to love. She had a powerful voice, a screwed up personal life, partied hard, performed at Woodstock, her biggest hit wasn’t her best song, and she died of an overdose at 27. If you want iconic, Janis Joplin is the personification of rock and roll.

Oh, c’mon man - I voted for Joni Mitchell and I’m really not a big fan of hers at all 😀. But she’s just way to influential not to - everybody from Dylan and Led Zeppelin to Björk and Taylor Swift.

Greetings rockers! This week we are proud to honor Fleetwood Mac and Santana. And for the first time, we have a tie for third place! Somewhere above I described an elaborate tiebreaking procedure, but now I’m just going to keep it simple.

I missed the vote last week, which is probably a good thing because I would have voted for Parliament and Joni Mitchell, and I wouldn’t have voted for The Band or Eagles. So it would have been a four-way tie for 3rd.

I have to admit that I’m not a great fan of Paul McCartney as a solo, but damn, it’s Paul _freakin’_ McCartney whose songwriting continues to influence music.

But he is already in our Hall as a Beatle and many deserving artist deserve to go in before he double-dips.
Also, for myself, I think he did the least stuff I liked post Beatles.
George tops the list for me. Closely followed by John. Ringo gets points for all those years touring with his all Star Band. Great and affordable concerts. Paul, well he has Live and Let Die and a few other songs.

I think it’s going to be tough for anyone to get elected to this Hall twice, though Buffalo Springfield are getting at least a little support, so Neil Young might have the best shot.
John is the only Beatle I’d consider voting for as a solo artist, and even then it would depend on who else was on the ballot.

Correction! We’ve already inducted Cream, and I imagine Clapton will attract considerable support when he comes up as a solo artist next week.

I don’t want to get into arguments about “great” (because I wouldn’t describe The Band that way), but other bands include Genesis post-Peter Gabriel, Monkees on their best songs, and the Eagles. David Grohl didn’t drum on tour with the Foo Fighters, but he was the drummer on their first two albums.
