That sounds familiar. I think my source probably used “louie” rather than “shavetail” as louie has wider application, a shavetail being specifically a Second Lieutenant whereas Sargeants, Colonels, and Generals had a single line for multiple ranks. ---

We had some chickens, no eggs would they lay, We had some chickens, no eggs would they lay. My wife said, “Honey, we’re losing money… We have some chickens, but no eggs will they lay.” One day a rooster came in our yard And caught those chickens right off their guard… They’re laying eggs now, just like they use’ter, Ever since that rooster came in our yard! We had a milk cow, no milk would she give, We had a milk cow-ow, no milk would she give. My wife said, “Honey, we’re losing money, We have a milk cow-ow-ow-ow, but no milk will she give.” One day this rooster came in our yard, And caught that milk cow _**(wow!!)**_, right off her guard… She’s giving eggnog in waxed containers, Ever since that rooster came in our yard! We had a gum tree, but no gum would it give, We had a gum tree, but no gum would it give.
