Possibly. It’s an open case. Police and the FBI like to close cases. Even if the perpetrator is already beyond the law.

> It’s a bit of a puzzle to me why there is so much interest in Hoffa’s disappearance. Yes- great to find his remains, but he wasn’t a terribly nice person. And after all these years it does seem a bit of a waste. And it would be unlikely that the discovery of a body would enable the prosecution of anyone.

It’s just an famous unsolved mystery at this point. It would be like finding out who Jack the Ripper was. Or maybe more like D.B. Cooper because it was recent enough that there’s still the potential that the people involved are still alive.

> Do you have any more info? Crater was a fairly corrupt lower level NYC judge-what did he want to disappear? Was he in on some serious corruption? THe remains found under the Coney Island pier were never identified (as far as I know)-so other than the old letter, what proof do we have of Crater’s demise?

I don’t know if Crater was killed in 1930. The point I was making was that he wasn’t just taken by surprise. He was up to something. Right before his disappearance he destroyed a bunch of files and withdrew a large amount of money from the bank. And he was traveling around a lot and lying to conceal where he was going and what he was doing.

> So the FBI finds human remains (by now, a skeleton), and DNA testing reveals they are Hoffa’s-what next? Are murder indictments coming? This is the kind of thing that makes me question the judgement of the FBI-why spend all that money?

It’s possible. There’s no statute of limitations on homicide.
