Don’t you worry, Dave. They don’t play until 4 today. So, you want a bold prediction? OK. Today the hapless Steelers play the powerhouse Broncos, who lost last week to Kansas City only because they didn’t have enough sense to make sure that they didn’t kick the ball to Dante Hall. The Broncos are better on the offensive side of the ball, and there’s a very good chance they’ll shred the Pittsburgh secondary like everyone else has this year. They also have Clinton Portis, who will attempt to run wild on the Steelers defensive line. On the flip side, you have Tommy Maddox, who’s playing like a rookie, an ineffective running game, and the best recievers in football, meaning that they’ll be double covered all day. So, you really want a bold prediction? Pittsburgh 28, Denver 10. I think Pittsburgh will catch the Broncos on the rebound from that colossal choke last week by playing like they actually want to win the division. After all, it doesn’t get any easier for the Steelers from here on out, and if they pooch this they’ll be 2 games under .500. So I think they’ll come out and assert themselves early, and win going away. How’s that for bold? ---

I’ve gotta say it doesn’t look too good for the Steelers. Their main weakness is the offensive line- and treams have been taking advantage of the inexperience by attacking and destroying the line. Most of the original starters are injured, and people are being shuffled around so much that compicated blocking schemes are impossible. The secondary just isn’t making it. They always have played the run effectively but because of that it’s easy to isolate and beat any DB. Scott doesn’t have the quickness to keep up with the league’s best recievers. Send one guy across his face and he’ll bite and allow the second guy to catch the pass for a TD. Maddox hasn’t had very much time to throw because of the line problems, and when he has thrown it’s been erratic at best- it’s almost like he’s channeling Kordell. He was gunshy against Tenn and he just suckeds in the Cleve game. Add in the Mile High air and I think it’s going to be another long day, and subsequently a long season. The best hope Pittsburgh has today is a self-destruct by Plummer and/or the Denver defense, and Clinton Portis hopefully ate some bad BBQ last night and has the trots (instead of the runs, which would be good?) Regardless of what Pitt does, if the Crows lose to Atlanta they are even more pathetic than the Steel;ers, due to that first game. ---

Just would like to hijack and gloat about the Panthers D once more. They shut down another potent offensive force (the _miraculous comeback_[sup]TM[/sup] on the part of the Colts to tie it up doesn’t count) and of course win the game in OT. The Panthers offensive line shows they can even make somebody like Jerome Bettis’s grandma look good, as Stephen Davis steps out and Deshaun Foster steps in. As Terry Bradshaw says, “Keep runnin’ em down, and they’ll get tired just like what happened to my maw when she kept chasin’ me and got too tired to give me a whoopin’!” ---
