Well, all I can say is that I (for one) feed my protective eye wear all the time. Perhaps it’s regional? Hullo, all. **Dotty** –suddenly so many things make sense re MIL. It doesn’t explain my MIL, who (supposedly) “led with love” throughout her parenting of young children. Yeah, right. I am off to work tomorrow. Downtown, so the thermometer is of course plunging into single digits and a snowstorm is predicted. If I were off, it’d be a noneventful day. I am off Wednesday, so I’ll get to shovel the snow that day (if we get any–they’re predicting lake effect snow, which means we won’t get any, but IN will get slammed). I have noticed the lingering daylight in the evening–does a body good. I doubt I’d have benefited from _februa_, but I confess myself intrigued. The pics of London are fabulous–take a look in those UK snow threads if you all get a chance. TH is officially out of work. I’m dealing with this by ignoring it and hoping it (and him) will go away. Think that’ll work? ---

Yeah, I think it’s a Midwestern thing, isn’t it, **rigs**? 😃 Cool house, **FCM.** Hope Nat is all better **LiLi.** Left you a link in one of the comments on your blog, BTW. I’ve watched part I of Sense and Sensibility, the PBS version. OK, but not as good as the movie with Emma Thomson and Kate Winslet. Also, I’ve practiced knitting with double-pointed needles. I’m not quite comfortable yet. I’m sure I’ll get there, though. Probably need to read more about how to keep the needles balanced so that I’ll feel a little less like I’m trying to wrangle a 3-D puzzle. Any tips from the knitters out there? But now I’m sleepy. Damn, it was a hell of a crappy work day. Everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. The list is too long to go into. Sorry to hear that TH is out of work, **rigs.** Hopefully, he’ll find something soon. I don’t know that I like or even dislike February. I guess it’s just a “meh” month for me. I must admit, though, that I am ready for a little warmth and some sun. Like **rigs,** I’ve noticed the daylight hours are just a tad longer, but I’d like some warmth to accompany it. I really don’t have anything of note to relate, just work, work, work. Hugs and smooches to all. ---

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ here. It’s cold outside! Well, it is! 33 Amurrkin with a windchill of 28. I have to wear a jacket today even. Speakin’ of which, I scored myself one a couple of weeks ago I don’t think I’ve mentioned. It’s a tan suede jacket originally priced at US175. It got marked way down to 49.95 and I had a coupon for ten dollars off so I got it for 39.95! I lurves my new tan suede jacket. Oh and Firday mornin’ I get to go count votes. See, the Jawja Diocese of the Episcopal Church is meetin’ in good ol’ Albeeeeny Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It’s convention time. Anywho, elections are bein’ held on Firday mornin’. They needed help with tallyin’ elections and such, so I volunteered to be there Firday mornin’ since I’m off work and all. I’m such a good person! 😃 Ok, time for more caffiene and brekkies then purtification for work. Later Y’all! ---

One of these days, when she says for the umpteeenth time something along the lines of “I don’t believe/trust/see how that person may know how to do his/her job, having received the exact same training as those of us in the consultant team,” I may have a stupid moment and ask her how in God’s sweet Earth can she claim to believe in God when she has no faith at all in Man. Does she think nobody got any work done before she was born? Was her birth the beginning of intelligence for humankind? Did nobody know how to communicate before she arrived to ride our shoulders? ---

G’morning! I slept much better last night and may be able to stay awake for more than 5 minutes today. I went to bed at 8:30, and didn’t even watch Heroes. I recorded it though, and promptly forgot to watch it this morning when I got up. I always get up an hour before I have to get ready, just to drink coffee and watch the news. I finished my partner’s taxes last week and got mine done this weekend. I don’t dread doing them because we pay a lot of mortgage interest and property taxes and so we always get a big refund. Every year we use most of the refund to do a home improvement project but I let my partner pick which one we do since he’s the one that’s going to be doing all of the skilled labor. I’m hoping that he wants to replace the fencing around the pool to make it match all of the other fences and gates. I’d love to do something with the ugly cement around the pool but stone is too expensive and even stamped concrete is pretty pricey for an area that big. We could cover it all with a deck or maybe stain the concrete but I’m not sure if that would be an improvement. **Swampbear** I got the same kind of deal on a suede jacket. I was at an outlet store and walked by a rack of beautiful jackets that were marked down from $249 to $49, but they were all size small so I didn’t try one on. On the way out I looked again because I couldn’t see what was wrong with them and they looked awfully large for a small and I needed a medium. I tried one on and it fit perfectly. It turned out that they had mistakenly marked the mediums as small. It may have been the best shopping score of my life. ---

A short tale. The first Monday of the month is the rescue squad meeting. I always go; VWife has been going on occasion even though she’s not officially a squad member, but she volunteers enough with fundraising and the like that she is justified. Plus, whenever we cook, she goes to eat. Last night, she decided she was going, because she had some fundraising business to attend to, plus she made a double batch of brownies. We were within 2 minutes of the rescue station when we saw blue lights and a lot of haze ahead. Apparently, there was a big brush fire earlier in the day, and it was flaring up again. I called the dispatcher, suggesting Mayberry be paged; she ended up calling NC Forestry instead. Fine with me, but I vacillated for a minute or three between continuing to the rescue meeting, or doubling back to the fire station. This left me open to a whole raft of crap from da wife. I ended up continuing on to the meeting. About 15 minutes into it, **DEEEEE duuuuh BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP** [pause] [other tones] **DEEEEE duuuuh BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP** _“Station 20 (Mayberry), Station 50 (Pixley). Check in for traffic. Report of a structure fire in the abandoned store on highway 158…”_ An old building in Cracktown West was burning. It’s notorious for being a hangout spot for the druggies to socialize and smoke cigarettes. I jumped up, and smacked VWife on her thigh, because there were 2 of us and one vehicle. “Come on, you’re taking me to the station.” This POed her, of course. We get outside, and she said, “You just go, I’ll bum a ride home.” “Are you sure?” “Yes, go!” So I did. The fire wasn’t much. One corner of the building was toast, and there was fire in the attic. The same forestry guy who was supposed to be handling the flare up spotted it, and using his equipment, knocked the flames down enough to save the building before we got there. The corner involved was the smoking spot, BTW. I got to play with a pike pole, while two small hoses doused flame. Overall, there was lot of butt-pickin’ to be done. My station cleared in about 20 minutes, and I got back to the rescue station in time to second the motion to close, and provide a way home for VWife. “You just had to be in on the action, didn’t you?” Yup, I did. 😃 ---

No, that’s not okay. :mad: Had to reschedule for next Saturday. Okay, 4:30 isn’t all that late but it would probably been more like 5-5:30 and that’s cutting into preparing/eating Sunday Dinner.
