And I hate the “we just did it” line. It’s understandable in some cases - like when the same person starts a thread almost identical to one he just started himself the day before. But sometimes the linked thread is several months old. Who knows how many experts on the subject could have joined in that time? ---

If we’ve done a poll about Great Movies With Keanu Reeves, well, knowing that people are going to have a hard time coming up with any, it can be helpful to also point them to the Keanu Reeves poll from 6 months previously. You know, as a long time dedicated lurker, I really have to agree with the OP. In the last 6 months or so, I have had the feeling that people were not nearly as accepting or as patient with newbies. Just my $.02. ---

An inevitable aspect of having a message board with a large population is that people won’t feel as “close-knit”. It’s like the difference between a small town with 100 people living there, and a massive city with 100,000 people living there… people stop feeling as much of a “kinship” with each other, because it’s not so “special” to be part of the group, simply because each individual is “diluted”, in a sense. (Forgive me… when I get tired, I tend to use more of a “wordy”, abrasive tone.) ---

If showing trolls and whiners the door is what it takes to keep the standard of quality, then so be it. I have never understood the level of intelligence (or lack thereof) needed to comprehend that maybe you should leave a place that is so obviously twisting your gonads in knots, but unfortunately, there have been a few who can’t figure it out for themselves and need someone to help show them the door. You will usually see the word BANNED under their name. If you want a board that tolerates any and all actions, there are many out there on the internet, all it takes if a Google search and a little effort. Fortunately, the admins, mods, and members of this board make a huge effort to keep the quality of this board higher than most. If you honestly believe that it is a result of some of us trying to turn this into the old AOL board (laughable) or to make it a place where everyone agrees with everyone (even more laughable) then you obviously haven’t been paying much attention. Some of us only care about keeping the level of quality that surpassed other boards. If you don’t understand that, I’m afraid I can’t help you much. Maybe someone else can explain it to you a little better. ---
