Dexter, the early years and the origin story of your favorite serial killer.

Only one episode publicly scheduled at this time, so make what you will of that.
Personally I thought New Blood provided the series finale that the original Dexter deserved. I’ll give it a chance, but don’t really have any expectations.

I decided last week to start watching Dexter. Never saw it before, but knew the underlying premise. Still in Season 1, but they do a lot of flashbacks of him with his father, where Dad is the same and teaches Dexter how to hide in plain sight. Since we know Dexter’s first kill, we know early history, etc., there can’t be too many “shocking twists” for the series.

This sounds like what I thought New Blood was going to turn into. I though they backed themselves into a corner with the ending, but at the same time maybe they were making up for the ending of Dexter.
In any case, as I watched New Blood, I figured it was either going to be about Dexter trying to steer Harrison down a different road or, more likely, Dexter teaching Harrison the way Harry taught Dexter.
Does anyone know if this, or New Blood for that matter, follow any of the books (which I never read) or is this all new material.
I see Michael C Hall is the narrator which should give it a similar feel to the original Dexter. Both because Dexter did that, but also like Young Sheldon, it gives you an instant connection to the original show. I’m curious as to if this is going to be adult Dexter looking back at his life (ie Young Sheldon, HIMYM, Wonder Years).

Based on that statement, I think @OP should let us know if it’s okay to spoil the previous two shows in this thread. It’s going to be difficult to speculate on the prequel without spoiling the original run.

The impression I got from the article I read and the trailer is that it’s going to be a young Dexter with his father mentoring him on how to control/satiate his dark passenger in an ‘acceptable’ manner. I’ve never watched Young Sheldon so I don’t know the format.

I’ll check it out. I loved _Dexter_, and liked _Dexter: New Blood_. I’m curious to see how Christian Slater plays Harry, and apparently we’ll also get to see the young Maria LaGuerta and Angel Batista.

I’m looking forward to this and hoping it doesn’t suck. Michael C. Hall is back as the voice in Dexter’s head.

This thread reminded me that the original _Dexter_ has been on my to-watch list for years. So I checked and found that it is still available on Netflix, and started watching it over the weekend. I’m five or six episodes into it and find it fascinating.

I feel confident in predicting that you’ll only be truly disappointed with one episode. The series finale. It sucked shit through a straw.

I thought the first season of Dexter was one of the best of any show I’ve ever watched.

Welp, it turns out that Dexter was only _mostly_ dead. Can’t say I saw that coming. It is about Dexter as a 20-year-old. I expected younger. Cool to see some of the police characters back, though. Plus, Buffy!

The books have demonic cults with real demons, and Dexter’s stepkids become serial killers because apparently all you have to do is beat your kids in Miami. The show departed from the books a long time ago.

The younger versions of Angel and Masuka are eerie. They are so close in looks to the original actors.
Can’t say I’m a fan of the change that surprise! Dexter is actually alive! I hadn’t followed any of the promos or commercials for the new series at all so had no clue Michael C Hall would actually be in it.

There is a third _Dexter_ spin-off in the works, about a younger version of John Lithgow’s character, with a voiceover by Old Man Lithgow:

Five episodes in on DOS and the cobwebs and tumbleweeds in this thread seem to suggest that we _weren’t_ waiting for it.
The show is…fine. But completely unnecessary.

So far, I agree with “unneccessary.” But I’m hopeful that a payoff might be coming, and in the meantime it’s entertaining enough for me to keep watching it. Mostly I’m still enjoying the “young [character]”/backstory stuff, though, so I wonder how long it will take for that to wear off. And how much longer I can tolerate one-note teenage Deb (who I keep thinking was somewhat miscast).
I don’t know if I’ll be interested enough in the Trinity prequel, but I’m planning to check out _Resurrection_ this summer.
