Christopher Scholtes left his 2-year-old daughter to die in his driveway, and his other two children unattended, to play video games, after being seen on camera shoplifting beer. (And their mother is/was an ER physician!) He also had a teenage daughter at the time who had type 1 diabetes, and he would do the same thing with her when she “visited.” And he was allowed to bond out, and even took a trip to Maui with his family in the meantime! He was found dead today, when he didn’t show up for his sentencing. It’s presumed to be a suicide, but authorities do need to do their jobs. Thanks for the post. I watched it last night. When I saw that literally hundreds of reporters and other non-law enforcement bystanders showed up during the standoff, all I could think is that he could potentially have taken out many more people than he actually did. ---

Not only did he and Crick rely on Rosalind Franklin’s famous double helix photograph without her knowledge, but he mocked her in his autobiography and never gave her credit for her contributions. 2. All the shit he said about race and genetic determinism later in his life. Fuck him. We revere scientists and believe their hagiographies all too easily sometimes. ---

The obituary on James Watson everyone should read is the one by Sharon Begley.
