Per [this news item](http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/tv/showtracker/la-et-st-the-simpsons-to-kill-off-character-20131001,0,248730.story), a Simpsons character will die this season. [Quote=LA Times article] “We’re actually working on a script where a character will pass away,” [executive producer Al] Jean said. “I’ll give a clue that the actor playing the character won an Emmy for playing that character, but I won’t say who it is.” “Simpsons” fanatics will know that this hint doesn’t exactly narrow things down: Nearly every member of the core ensemble of voice-over performers has won an Emmy, including Dan Castellaneta (Homer, Barney, Krusty), Julie Kavner (Marge, Patty, Selma), Hank Azaria (Apu, practically everyone else on the show), Nancy Cartwright (Bart) and Yeardley Smith (Lisa). Even a few guest stars have picked up Emmys for “Simpsons” appearances, including Anne Hathaway for voicing Princess Penelope and Kelsey Grammer for Sideshow Bob. [Jackie Mason won an Emmy for his first appearance as Rabbi Krustofsky.](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_awards_and_nominations_received_by_The_Simpsons#Primetime_Emmy_Awards) If it’s anyone else I’ll be stunned. Of course I’d be more stunned if they just let the episode happen and didn’t tell us ahead of time, but I guess that’s how you promote your show. ---

I think it might be Apu (Qwicky mart guy). According to the guys on the radio, there is a growing group out there that feels Apu portrayal is a racist characterization. ---

Yeah, sure. The character has been out there but just now people are getting upset that he’s a stereotype. 😛 The Indian guy running the convenience store is a stereotype that they probably couldn’t get away with if The Simpsons was a new show, but the character has gained a lot of depth over the years. He’s one of my favorites, actually. In fact- is the Indian convenience store guy even an “active” stereotype anymore? I think people’s views of Indian-Americans has changed a lot in 25 years. If there’s a stereotype now I would think it’s that Indians are all doctors and spelling bee champions. ---
