Oddly enough, I sang in the elementary school choir and was also in the All City Chorus in 1976. However, I can’t carry a tune in a bucket now. It’s hot here; too hot, but it’s supposed to eventually cool off over the course of this week. I survived my first day back at work after a two week break. I sure didn’t want to get up, but I did it. I seriously need to win a big lotto. This would entail buying tickets, though. I buy one occasionally, but that’s about it. I guess this would severely lessen my chances of winning, huh? 😉 I’m not in the least bit hungry and really don’t want to do any sort of cooking, much less stand in front of a grill on my hot, hot, hot back patio. ---

Morning, mumpers! I’m having a four-day week so technically it’s humpday for me. Busy evening last night, laundry and ironing so that 'im indoors has two clean and presentable shirts for the wedding on Friday. I shall insist he takes both of them to wear in case he manages to spill something down one shirt during the meal. I watched an infuriating programme called “The Hospital” which focuses on the problems our health service faces from the younger generation. Each week they look at a different area and this week was diabetes. What was most annoying was the number of young, obese girls they interviewed who didn’t care about their condition, weren’t prepared to make any changes to their lives and really weren’t at all bothered about the immense burden they will inevitably become to the NHS. One young girl was interviewed with her mother, who said that she had no way of controlling her daughter or enforcing simple things like blood sugar checks, and the daughter couldn’t care less about it all. She routinely lied to her doctor about checking her blood sugar and taking her medication, she went out and got drunk (she’s 15, the legal limit for alcohol here is 18) with her friends because she wanted to be just like them, and said at the end that she’d take her insulin “if I remember”. She’s meant to be injecting four times a day. Makes me feel all stabby, and I think these people need a good slapping. Or a poke with a very pointy stick. ---

I’m having a strange day… I’m trying to buy English-language versions of two ISO standards; I have the Spanish versions, but it would be nice to have them in English so I can be sure to use the right terms in that famous dissertation I should be writing. ISO, ANSI and BSI are all giving me strange errors upon payment. Wtf? I never had problems using these cards before, I can access both banks’ webpages just fine, and I do have enough money thank you. ANSI’s form was designed by drugged monkeys, btw and in case anybody who works there reads this: instead of having one of those “name as it shows on credit card” fields, it has “first name” and “lastname”. And at least they do know they may be getting purchases from abroad… My banks have me on file under my full 8-word name, but one card shows six words and the other one shows two initials and four words… Oh, and for BSI I need to enter my VAT code in the international form (with country code), but for ISO it’s without country code. Jeeeezus wept but did not follow ISO systems to do so, because He could not purchase the appropriate one. ---

Happy birthday, TVMan! I was a bad diabetic for a long time, and never checked my sugars. I am now a contrite patient, and have it under control at last. Fifteen year olds can be hard to control, but if my daughter had diabetes, I’d damn sure be monitoring her a bit better than _that_ mom! Blurf. Deadlines, and database corruption. These things don’t go together well. :mad: ---

I lost my bookmark backups and I’m having to piece them back together from memory. :mad: Probably September. But I haven’t said anything. Today’s my last day of vacation. If nothing else, this vacation has proved to me I really want another job that doesn’t involve dealing with The American Travelling Public and standing for eight hours. My goal for this week is to write my resume and have some people look at it to make sure it’s all right. Then I begin to search. Somewhere. I’m done with yahd work. It’s hawt out there! I am, however, all showered and purtified. I also cleaned the master bathroom. Other parts of da cave need to be defilthyfied but I don’t wanna right now so I’m not. Dindin tonight shall be salmon patties, _English_ ( 😛 ) peas and smashed **N.O.T.**. Maybe some bizkits too if’n I decide. This is a dindin I get a gnawin’ and a cravin’ for from time to time. ---

I realize that I’m at the ‘free clinic’ but isn’t it counterproductive to my attempts at generating income to make me come for a walk-in evaluation and have to sit here for hours so I can sign up for one of today’s coveted appointments? Yes, I did have to cancel paying work to do this. :rolleyes: ETA: What I mean to say is why not just make appointments in the first place instead of making multiple people waste hours of their lives jockeying for position. ---
