B) We wouldn’t have been bounced in the first round of the playoffs in 2005/06 if a certain someone who’s name rhymes with Mazeltoffen wasn’t ordered by cash-register jaw to put a hit on Carson Palmer. And I’ll be sure to wake you up when the Bengals make the playoffs and the Steelers do not, and after we win our first game. ---

Normally, I wouldn’t be optimistic at all with a 6-6 record. If they can just tweek a few things in the defensive secondary, I still think they have a good shot. Maybe my emotional attachment to the team is affecting my ability to view things rationally. But I can’t get past the fact that they lost one game by 6 points and the other 5 by 3 points. ---

I know that in some of those games (like the first Bengals matchup, and I believe against the Chiefs and Raiders, too) the Steelers squandered leads going into the second halves of the games. That’s got to be frustrating. The Bengals had the same issue against the Texans and the Raiders. Had the lead at halftime, got conservative, then sloppy, then lost. I’d rather my team just get blown out from start to finish than have the edge in TOP, offensive stats, etc only to lose in the waning moments. Its immensely frustrating. ---

I saw a headline on [NFL.com](http://NFL.com)’s website last night that read (paraphrasing) “Steelers Ward questionable for Browns with injury” and I thought “How ironic is that? Has Rothlisberger taken to calling him a pussy in the media yet?” Edit: its still there, but there is no mention of the “rift” between Mssrs Ward and Rothlisberger in the article. ---

On his facebook page Ward says he is going to warm up and doesn’t plan to miss a must-win game. I don’t think we’ll see him in the line-up but he’s going the extra mile to inspire his teammates. What he said about Ben was jerkish but I think Hines really does have a different approach to the game. They need to win to stay alive. They need to blow them out of the water to restore confidence. ---

See? This is why I’ve lost my optimism for this group. The team that went 6-10 in 2003 inspired more confidence, at least they played with some fire in the belly. Our team looks soft right now.
