# The Skins Game?

Why do they call [this yearly golfing event](http://www.landmarkgc.com/skinsgame.html) the “The Skins Game”?

Is it really as primitive as _ **Scots** _ betting animal pelts?

**buzzz** There was a report done on the question at the [Straight Dope](http://www.straightdope.com/mailbag/mskinsgolf.html). I’m still not sure that it was answered with assurance, but it’ll have to do for now.

PS They appreciate a link to the original article IF you know that it exists. Since you didn’t, you obviously put this in GQ. I’m sure a Moderator will move it to Comments on Staff reports.
