**jacksen9** : I know, I grew up in Houston. I agree that though Texas is in the south, it really isn’t part of “The South”, if you catch my meaning. But since the saying is a Confederacy thing, and since Texas was part of the Confederacy, I think the Texas example is appropriate. ---

“Ya’ll” is one of my pet peeves because it seems inexplicable as a mispelling; if one is aware that the word is a contraction for “you all”, the correct placement of the apostrophe should be obvious. However, I immediately went on to misspell “Ft. Sumter”. ---

Oh, I don’t know… I think you can take it alot of ways. There is the whole sad ignorant crowd who think that somehow we’re still going to be able to split from the rest of the nation (I doubt we could beat off the transplanted yankees down here, much less the rest of 'em up north ;\>). There was a Charlie Daniels song, it was about the new crop of Southern Rock around in the '70s picking up the mantle from the original southern rockers like Elvis, Buddy Holly and Jerry Lee Lewis. I prefer to think of it as a rallying call to shrug off and put aside the shame of our defeat and our checkered past, to go on and elevate ourselves to our rightfull place as one of the most vibrant and valuable cultures in the USA. We have alot to offer, many many good points and people seem to like living here. We also put up with alot of stereotyping and insulting crap that most other areas seem to do without… and that’s fine, adversity breeds strength I believe. ---

What gets me is when I see the Confederate Flag on cars or trucks in Canada. I mean, it’s possible these are transplanted southerners but it’s really unlikely for Saskatchewan. It’s not even rebelling against anything. We barely have any black people. The only thing it can signify is you being a racist asshole.
