That little rock is about all that’s left of the Spanish Empire. Poor Spain! However, if the two countries start shooting across the Straits of Gibralter, we’ll have to swat them both like annoying flies. ---

I was listening to NPR, and someone mentioned that the only reason that this particular island is of interest is because it is unoccupied and the perfect place to put certain kinds of electronic observation devices. So both countries are also claiming to want the island as a matter of “National Security.” Personaly I don’t see why they couldn’t sit down and negotiate dual use of the island with continued Spanish ownership (not that it matters). But that would involve putting ego aside and thinking logicaly, which is something most polititians are not capable of 😛 ---

It’s amusing because the island is inhabited by goats. Anything involving goats is amusing. I’m for whomever the goats are for. ---

Morocco is on Spain’s case for Ceuta. Spain is on the UK’s case for Gib. I’m just sorry that rock wasn’t owned by the Brits, just to bring the whole silly thing full circle. 😛 ---

I have to admit that I’ve seen more interesting reasons, to support one side or another in war, in this thread than I can ever recall seeing elsewhere. But I still can’t quite decide who to root for. The Moroccans seem Less Filling, the Spaniards seem to have More Taste. ---

I am not going to do a search now but that must have been one of the best threads ever. I can imagine a battery of goat launchers on this island and Spain claiming in the UN the Moroccan goat launchers were a threat to Spain. ---

I think its should me made its own country, The Caprine Republic of Perejil. It could have its own flag, currency, coat of arms, army, navy, and seat in the UN. ---

You gotta love it. The agreement is to return to the statu quo pre Moroccan “invasion” and Morocco is claiming victory. Hey! Look! We started this adventure and we’re no worse off than when we started! We made the Spanish retreat! Sounds like Saddam Hussein and his celebrating victory over America. Every time they omb someinstallion in Irak he claims victory. I guess everything is relative. ---

This relatively quick resolution exposes the untruth of the myth that the private sector is inherently more efficient than governments.
