> [@carnivorousplant](#): > > It may be that designers or users expected cooking to take awhile. Perhaps the culinary arts were thought to require the various ingredients to become acquainted with each other over time. I recall a fellow worker in the break room complaining that a TV dinner must microwave for ten minutes. “TEN minutes?!?!?” > 🙂 I remember the joke (Carson maybe?) about cooking a turkey in 7 months but ----------- I looked up some info and the idea was to hit it (the food) throughout the day with enough to prevent spoiling and then when you got home hit the button for finished cooking. “Why risk a slow-cooker when your microwave can do both?” It seems as most people answered “because the crock-pot does a better job” and the models were withdrawn not long after introduction. > [@The\_Vorlon](#): > > Set them to Zulu time and be done with it. Since its bigger than a gnat I won’t suggest that So search the flat before you get tired and fall over (wait for it) Going splat. (The previous program was brought to you by Schaefer Beer. Remember – Schaefer’s the one beer to have when you’re having more than one. I had a few.) --- _[View the full topic](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/the-spring-into-spring-mmp/713995)._
