# The Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread

Is there some reason why the announcers in the NSH / VAN series refer to the Predators’ goalie by his full name? It’s relentless and annoying.
“Pekka Rinne with the save, then Pekka Rinne sends it up ice. Pekka Rinne made a great save there. You can’t say enough about how much Pekka Rinne has stepped it up in this series.”

Ryan Kesler has entered BEAST Mode. If you watch him, of course he has skill but more importantly he plays tirelessly. He is out there for a lot of minutes but he plays the game like it is 1 minute long, not 60. I first noticed this during the Chicago series, where he didn’t get many points but was going at it like a man possessed every time he was on the ice.
Some might also remember him seriously notching up his level of play with team USA during the Olympics.
Conversely, the Sedins are getting shut down because their playoff opponents are now expending the energy to chase them into the corners making it harder to pull off the nifty passes. I’m hoping they’ll fare better against San Jose / Detroit’s defense. Shea Weber and his beard were just too much for them.

And the Wings tie it.
Have wever had this many series that start 3-0 go to a 7th game? Philly came back against Boston last year, Chicago pushed the Nucks to the brink this year, now this. I don’t remember this happening for a long, long time prior to this.

Wings played their best game of the postseason so far-and fell behind early in the 3rd and could have easily lost. This is the most fun I’ve had watching the postseason since 1994 and Mess bringing the Cup to NY.

Best game of the series for Detroit last night. They finally kept the pressure on for three whole periods. Now if only they could stop taking stupid penalties at the end of the game.

Whatever happens in game 7, the Wings have shown nothing but confidence, poise, patience, and professionalism. Hockey being hockey, they still may lose tomorrow, but damn, this has been one impressive comeback and one incredibly exciting series.
And I’ve never realized what a chickenshit dirty player Thornton is.

I have never, in all my years watching hockey, seen a team combine the ability to absolutely amaze you with miracle shots and moves totally pulled right out of their ass, with the idiotic tendency to constantly make the most completely boneheaded plays imaginable. But that’s the 2011 Detroit Red Wings. At least they make losing entertaining, in their own bizarre selfcontradictory idiom.
