See what messin’ up grits and runnin’ out of toilet paper does to me? It makes me forget how to code.
**Puggy** , did you get the “for the good of the community” speech? I had a boss who did that when we were open during heavy snows or just before a hurricane hit.
Naw, **doggieb**. I work for [del]spin docs[/del] a public relations firm…they know better than to try that one on us.

Yay! **swampy’s** back safe and sound from the killer rain storm. 😉

Happy birthday, Cuervo. Be a good boy and give a nice purr kiss to your hard-workin daddy.

**li-li** , I’m on my way to Canada to share somma that leg-o-lamb-a-rama. Mmmmmmm.

Well, so far all we’re getting is some very gentle steady rain out of Ernesto. They are saying that’s about all we WILL get. I’m down with that. Rain…good! Wind and tornados…BAAAAAAAAAAAD!!

Good Morning. Back to work today, I hope nothing else gets unplugged.

Happy Birthday Cuervo! **MBG** , does he still sleep in the litter box?

**kai** , my mother’s pom is a runner. She was so excited to have a human who could keep up with her on a walk.

**swampy** , I’ve been in N.C. for 27 years and I still don’t like grits.

Good morning, all!

Welcome back, **Swampy**!

Happy Birthday, **Cuervo**.

Hey - did I mention that Aug 19th was the three year anniversary of me quitting smoking? I totally forgot it on the day - that must be a good thing, huh? I don’t even think about it any more.

Things are nice and slow again here at work, just the way I like it. Well, after being busty for two solid weeks. I’m just cruising until Thursday afternoon - then 4 days off! I need to rest.

Happy Hump Day, everyone. Let’s kick this off right with a couple of puns:

> [@One](#):
>
> Puns of the Day:
> In other news, Texas Instruments is warning all users of calculators to be on their guard for the next few days, as a shipment of adder snakes has gotten loose.

> [@Two](#):
>
> Garter \gar-ter\ noun
> Definition: A garter snake, or garden snake, is any species of North American snake within the genus Thamnophis. Garter snakes are extremely common across North America, from Canada to Central America, an everyday find in gardens. They are the single most widely distributed species of reptile in North America, and in fact, the common garter snake is the only species of snake to be found in Alaska.
> Example sentence: When I was put in charge of the crown jewels of Snake Kingdom, I was told “Garter with your life.”

There now, don’t you feel better?

Pom? Isn’t that a brand of pomegranate juice? 😛

Huzzah for Cuervo! May he have many more years, and many happy returns.

**kai** , glad you mended things with #1. Domestic fallouts are never good.

Hmm … My lease on my Dartmouth apartment starts September 1. I should probably make sure the first month’s rent is in my bursar account. Also on the agenda today is getting my cell phone replaced, further inventorying my stuff for the move up to Dartmouth, and seeing _Little Miss Sunshine_ with my sister. Should be a fun day and a good movie. 🙂

Why did I show back up at work today? Why didn’t I just take the day since I wasn’t supposed to be here anyway? Why? Because I’m stoopid is why!

If it ain’t one thing it’s sump’n worse! I’ve got huuuuuuuge orders for lined tote bags (no I’m not talkin’ handbags, I’m talkin’ freakin’ hyuuuge poly cotton bags lined with plastic that hold 300 pounds of peanuts or almonds when full), boxes which must be glued and mop handles. Everybody needs everything _ **RIGHT NOW!!!** _

At least you’re not trying to transcribe a witness with a Chinese accent. Whose English is clear but whose grammar is, at best, trying. As in, “While transcribing this guy, Mama T. keeps _trying_ to pull her hair out.”

When I woke up today, I couldn’t even tell if it was morning yet. And even now, nearly at lunchtime, it’s still so grey and dark I have to have lights on so I can see to not trip over the dogs as I’m walking around the house. (Which, since they’re moving targets who feel their job is to be underfoot at _all_ times, is lots of fun even when I can see.)

I think I need more coffee.

Oh, there are exceptions.
Sigh. Last week I put a lip balm through the dryer, and I think I may have ruined Mr. Lissar’s favourite new pair of pants. I rewashed everything, but the stain didn’t even fade. I also ruined a pair of my pants and a few cheap t-shurt. Does anyone have any good suggestions for grease stain removal? Soap and hot water doesn’t seem to work. I could dye them darker, but he likes the colour.

Help?

Sorry to say this, but I’ve never found anything that will get out a grease stain once it’s been dried into the clothing.

I use this stuff called Lightning Grease Remover before I wash and dry.

Hopefully someone else will have some suggestions!

**LiLi** I have two important questions. Does Mr. Lissar use lip balm and does he know it was you who put the lip balm in the dryer? If he does use it and doesn’t know you did it, you could go into a tirade about how if he would _bother_ to empty the pockets of _his pants_ then things like this wouldn’t happen.

Ok, it doesn’t get the stains out but it stops him from bitchin’ at you for ruining his favorite pants. That’s a start. 😃

**Bobbio** I’d say be happy. If you need sand bags you have sand bags. Now all you need is a pile of sand and you can have hours of fun! I wonder why the sand bags are empty. Did the previous owner take the sand? Tres strange.

_Honey on grits!!!???_ _ **Sacrilege** _\*!!!
What do I know? I’m from Chicago, where they’re not terribly common, and am now in northern California, where they’re even more uncommon. I’ve given up on finding certain foods out here - it’s been nearly 20 years since I’ve had a good sausage gravy. Best biscuits and gravy I ever had was at a tiny hole in the wall place somewhere around Lincoln and Diversey in Chicago. Literally a hole in the wall - it was behind another building, so from the street, all you saw was about a five foot wide doorway nestled in between two buildings.

About all I know about them is that Emeril Lagasse says if they taste like grit, they’re not cooked right. Just doesn’t sound to appetizing to contemplate eating grit, even if it’s cooked properly and rather than being gritty is gummy or gloppy. I’m guessing gummy or gloppy is also another sign of “not cooked right.”

What IS a grit anyway? I’m having visions of people going out into the fields, picking the tiny things off the gritberry vines. Or are they like coconuts - a huge hard shell surrounding the tiny things, and immensely labor-intensive to extract?

never one grit - grits always travel in packs.
grits are made from homany - a corn derivitive, and if cooked properly are quite tasty with just a pinch of salt and a pat or two of butter (like \*\*swampy \*\* said)
think of mashed potatoes made from corn

Washed and dried? And washed and dried again?

About all you can do now is yell at him for leaving stuff in his pockets.

If they’re particularly valuable pants, you could take them to a dry cleaner - sometimes they can work small miracles with their naptha and perc, but sometimes the stain is there forever. Unfortunately, my money’s on forever - drying tends to make stains permanent.
