I used to make hamantaschen for the deli I worked at in Haslett, Michigan. Only had 'em for Purim of course. We did the poppy seed and fruit(prune) fillings. I became fond of the poppy seed ones, it was a new taste for me.
Children + electric mixer + bowls full of sticky, gooey stuff… and a digital camera to record it all!
Years from now, may your children’s children share all the delights of this Purim !
Baker, I live about 5 minutes away from Haslett, and you have given me an idea! I can still buy them tomorrow afternoon, can’t I?
Adorable kids, zev! I agree with everyone about how young you look - I always pictured you with a long gray beard and a fur hat.
We made them in the dining room Rocketeer, not the kitchen. The only books in the kitchen are cookbooks and my Weight Watchers books.
But, yes, we have a lot of books.

Zev–
I am about the fourth person so far to say this, but DANG you have lost a lot of weight since Israel! First thing I thought of when I saw the photos. (Well, second thing. Your kids are swell.)
By the way, you poppyseed folks are crazy. Prune lekvar is the true filling. Apricot is permissible. Poppyseed is fair, but must include dental floss with each serving, tastefully curled on the plate.
So…do you use fresh squz orange juice in your dough? My mom always did.
Anyway, Happy Purim and enjoy! Thanks for the pix!
Great looking family, Zev.
Poppyseeds huh. TLL’s down with that. Before I had her poppyseed streudel I thought they were just something sprinkled on a bagel. I was apprehensive but really liked it. Still there was enough poppyseed to make a third cousin of mine fail a drug test.
Hope this isn’t bursting your bubble tsarina, but the place I worked at is now closed. I worked at the Bagel Haul Deli, for Mike Hall and family, in the late 80’s. They have just closed in the last year or so, someone I’m still in contact with up there sent me an article from the Lansing Journal about it. I was totally bummed.
So where in East Lansing do you live? I lived in East Lansing at an apartment building at 212 Highland, just off Michigan Avenue, and just a few blocks east of the Frandor shopping center. Ever go to Curious Books on Michigan? Best used bookstore I ever shopped at!
