When we, and by ‘we’ I mean a bunch of us middle-aged people, went to see Darcelle (a bunch of female impersonators) a while back, they had a delicious drink called a ‘fresh boy’. However, given the orientiation of the waiters, it was a little difficult for us ‘Manly Men’[sup]TM[/sup] to ask for. _“Waiter, I want a fresh boy”_ _“Yes sir! I’ll be right there!”_ It had a lot of fruit juices in it. (Make up your own (non-PC) joke} ---

For **FCM** : Black Forest Ingredients 30 ml Creme de Cacao 30 ml Cherry Liqueur 30 ml Kirschwasser 30 ml Cream Glass Type Collins Glass Directions: Shake ingredients together and pour into glass. Add a little more cream as a floater, then add a cherry. Alcohol (ABV) - 22% (45 proof) ---

Only in a Rue thread can a conversation go from a penguin-fueled western sci-fi story, morph into random drink recipes, take a shuddering gasp and finally become an anecdote about not having the stones to order girly drinks at a drag show. _shakes head_ I think the final version of the Pink Penguin recipe really, really needs to involve pineapple somewhere. I don’t know why. Call it instinct. ---

**Bumb** , the Black Forest sounds yummerrific! I need to see if my sis the bartender could make it for me. **Rue** , I think I like your idea, too, minus the herring. I’ll have to go to the bar with my own ice cream, tho, which isn’t too hard to do since there’s an ice cream place right down the street from the Cat’s Eye. **slortar** , I gotta disagree. Pineapple might work in a Pink Pelican, but not for a Pink Penguin. ---

Pink Penguin? Pink Pelican? Pink Pig? If you used the Bailey’s would that make it a Pink Leprechaun? That’s why I drink beer. Uncomplicated. Just pop the top or yank off the cap and drink. No figuring out stuff to put in it. Cept when I make a “Bloody Bubba” (also known as red beer). Pour beer in frosty mug. Add some V8 Juice or Bloody Mary Mix. Add a dash or four of hot sauce if you desire. That’s as close to complicated as I get in drink mixing. Cept, I do make a good Martini. And I’m not sure but I think **Rue** may have implied that **Kallessa** and I are prone to prurient thoughts. ---

Blend until smoothly frozen (a penguin drink pretty much needs to be cold). Adjust color as needed with Grenadine. Garnish with a fresh pineapple wedge and cherry. A little umbrella will keep your penguin from getting sunburned. Repeat as necessary until you see “pink penguins”. Then post your adventures here. Repeat every Mondy. Voila! ---

Okay, we can substitute the ice for ice cream. Although I’m not positive that’s wise with the ingredients I mention. A Pink Pelican shouldn’t be that icy, since I associate pelicans with warm, tropical waters.\* \*Yes, I know that there are penguins in the Galapogas (sp?) islands, which is hardly icy, and there are probably cold water pelicans, but I’m just saying what my stereotype is, thanks very much! Now, I hope I haven’t strayed us too far from the dragshows. Speaking of which, where are **Exgineer** and **Welby** this week? ---

With all due respect, both Kahlua and Bailey’s would muddy the pink color. I submit for your approval **The Kallessa Pink Penguin:** One part Creme de Cacao One part Peppermint Schnapps One Scoop Pink Peppermint Ice Cream Enough milk or cream to blend Garnish with herring (optional) If pink peppermint ice cream is unavailable, strawberry will work, or a touch of food coloring–grenerdine would be too sweet. ---

**FCM** , you would duel with someone who just had her plum tree break? How heartless can you get! I’m changing the name from **The Kallessa Pink Penguin** to **The Kallessa Peppermint Polar Bear** , which is poles apart from your Pink Penguin (quite literally). I’m not doing this because I am afraid to duel against you. No, I do it for the herring. Won’t somebody _please_ think of the herring! In honor of my poor maimed plum tree, I’m inventing a new drink: One part Peppermint Schnapps Two parts Kahlua One part cream Served over ice, of course. I call it **The Icy Branch**. ---

Leave out the Kahlua. Add Plum Schnapps. More powerful, more likely to snap your limbs, and more appropos. Can we get some warm drink recipes, please? It’s damned cold around here today. We’d have plum trees freezing here, too, if the polar bares hadn’t eaten them all. ---

Drink recipes? I can do those. **Perfect Manhattans** : 1 drink shaker (optional) 1 jigger Rye Whiskey (trust me on this) 1/4 jigger dry vermouth 1/4 jigger sweet vermouth 1 or 2 marachino cherries (I personally skip this ingredient, because I think marachino cherries are gross) Pour whiskey and vermouth into the shaker with some ice. Shake. Strain mixture into glass. Drink. Repeat. If you want to do it the right way: Pour both Vermouths in the glass at the same time so as to get a little mixing action going on. Pour whiskey into glass. Add some ice if you feel like it. Drink. Repeat. **Perfect Martinis** 1 bottle Tanqueray No. 10. (stored in freezer) 1 bottle Dry Vermouth 1 chilled Martini glass Remove glass from freezer. Wet inside with vermouth. Pour ecxess into sink. Fill with glass with gin. Drink. Repeat.\* If you want to do it right: Remove gin and glass from freezer. Fill glass with gin. Repeat.\* See? I’m nothing if not helpful. Okay, I can’t help with, or understand to be honest, all that other stuff, but I’m trying here. Drink recipes, see? I’m contributing, really I am. Maybe tomorrow I’ll come back with “Stuff You Can Do to Promote Your Own Survival When You Find Yourself Naked in the Middle of Nowhere with Nothing but an Ax and a Wooden Kitchen Match.” Or maybe not. I’m kinda tired. \*You can’t really repeat the “remove glass from freezer” part unless you’ve planned ahead and put two (per person) in the freezer ahead of time so you can cycle 'em. Otherwise, just keep giving 'em the same warm glass. After two drinks they won’t care anyway. ---
