Some may be under the impression that JD Vance cooked up this rumor about ducks and cats himself. That doesn’t appear to be the case. According to Zaid Jilani, contributor to the Dispatch, the rumor can be sourced to a Gab channel days before Vance mentioned it. Earlier this week my son wanted ramen for lunch. He selected the package he wanted and started to laugh, because the package was creased such that the label that reads CHICKEN POULET looked like it said CHIEN PET (“Chien” means “dog” in french). Of course, I also found it funny (because it actually is a humourous outcome of folding those words that way), but this led to a 7:30am conversation about racism and slurs and othering and being cautious about how this story is told at school because of the unfortunate history of the racist idea behind immigrants, particularly Asians, eating cats and dogs. Racists ruin everything. The whole fact that is is a “serious” talking point during an American presidential election cycle is so absurd, it’s mind-numbing. ---

I saw someone on TV say the Haitians are also eating people! (I actually did see something like this. It was a Good Liars-type clip of interviewing MAGAs at a Trump rally, or something, I saw on YouTube, but I can’t find it now to post.) ---
