One night’s docking fee for any of those boats would probably be equal to half of my year’s salary. Plus, envision the joy of paying to fill up the tank of any of those little boats…let’s see…$2.99 a gallon times 10,000…uh, honey, bring that other credit card over here a minute… ---

Bah - if it’s less than 100m long, it’s not a REAL yacht. If you can stand the tooth-grinding awfulness of their website [Lurssen](http://www.lurssen.com/) have some monsters in their showcase. ---

. . . and after reading stories of all of the piracy and hijackings down around Malaysia and Indonesia, I’m just wondring–how the hell do you _defend_ such a thing? I mean, what if the boat hits a big iceberg? Then what? Uncle Moneybags and his family & crew are floating around the North Atlantic in a little raft. I’m sure that helicopter would come in real handy right about then, but OOPS! It’s at the bottom of the drink. Tripler I guess everyone’s gotta have a hobby. ---

From **astro’s** link though I don’t think any of the more modern yachts can hold a candle to the Gettys Talitha G, in terms of charm or looks. ---

I saw the _Rising Sun_ back in March. The thing is monsterous. The idea that it’s privately owned shocked us at the time. ---

My sister used to and I guess whenever she feels like it still is a yachtie where she worked on megayachts such as the above. The boat she worked on belonged to a person who owns a publishing company in NY. The boat that her bf crewed on is/was owned by the owner of ticketmaster. Every season her and her friends from all over the world become crew on these boats. They go down to Antibes and start crewing and going or meeting the owners wherever they want. I guess it is a facinating life if you like to travel. Alot of the time the owners are not even aboard. She has done a crossing of the Atlantic and in the winter they work in the Carribean. You have to be really really rich to afford a yacht like that and the crew who works aboard all year. ---

If you can afford a yacht like that you can afford to have a fair number of your crew kitted out with M16’s or whatever, and to employ staff who keep an eye on the top-spec radar/sonar screens 24/7. Quite something, isn’t it? You need five minutes to figure out the so-called navigation and then half an hour to sit through all the animations in order to see their products. God… hundreds of millions for those boats, and to showcase them is one of the most awful & cumbersome websites I’ve ever seen. ---
