The Supreme Court could rule the election invalid

There’s a petition to force the production of the ‘original’ birth certificate.

I’m tempted to sign it a few times…

As ‘Jim-Bob Muslimhater’, ‘Richard Cheney’, ‘Sarah Palin’…

Apologies, didn’t check the forum.

And yet still not as idiotic as the case itself.

I’m not sure what you mean by this. We are discussing a person who wants to challenge a governmental action (viz–the seating of Obama as POTUS), so saying the government has standing to challenge its own action is a bit of a non sequitur. If the government thought that Obama were not a natural born citizen, then presumably it would not seat him and then Obama could sue and would have standing.

Now for something completely different - what is the definition of “natural born citizen”? Has that been well-enough defined to cover in vitro fertilization? Could we see a situation in the future where one of the candidates had been conceived in vitro and then the claim made that he/she was not “natural born”? Or does that get into “natural conception” as opposed to “natural born”?

Hell, could birth via C-Section be considered a “natural birth”?

Now I’m having MacBeth flashbacks:

Despair thy charm;
And let the angel whom thou still hast served
Tell thee, Obama was from his mother’s womb
Untimely ripp’d.

And Native Americans, and African Americans, but only the ones with a 100% of their ancestors living in the US before 1776. If even one your ancestors was kidnapped and brought to America to be a slave after 1776 you’re screwed.

US v Nixon was also unanimous (although having double-checked Wikipedia, it was 8-0 instead of 9-0, since William Rehnquist recused himself from the case)

That, or if none of your ancestors were in America until the 20th century.

All you folks saying that a Supreme Court decision would shut up all of the loons once and for all, I want to go live in your world. In the world I live in, such loons can’t be quieted by any force of law or logic. If the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that they were idiots, they’d respond by concluding that the justices were in on it, and must have been bribed/blackmailed/cajoled/mind controlled by Obama.

And by extension, may I add … WTF Clarence?! :smack: He didn’t write the argument for the case, but he has been told to fuck off with this once, and insists on bringing it before the court. The guy has always struck me as a scumbag, but this is astounding to me. Utterly shameless. I know he’s there for life, but can a judge be held in contempt by the other judges or something? I mean … the case’s argument is “He’s not a real American cuz his dad was an immigrant.” I repeat my rebuttal … WTF?!

I became intrigued by the OP and started looking around to find out what it was all about. I was amazed to discover the amount of stuff that Obama hasn’t revealed but was almost struck dumb by this:

*Wayne Allyn Root was, like Obama, a political science major at Columbia who also graduated in 1983. In 2008 Root says of Obama, "I don’t know a single person at Columbia that knows him, and they all know me. I don’t have a classmate who ever knew Barack Obama at Columbia. Ever! … Nobody recalls him. I’m not exaggerating, I’m not kidding.” Root adds that he also was “Class of ’83 political science, pre-law” and “You don’t get more exact than that. Never met him in my life, don’t know anyone who ever met him. At the class reunion, our 20th reunion five years ago, 20th reunion, who was asked to be the speaker of the class? Me. No one ever heard of Barack! Who was he, and five years ago, nobody even knew who he was… the guy who writes the class notes, who’s kind of the, as we say in New York, the macha who knows everybody, has yet to find a person, a human who ever met him. Is that not strange? It’s very strange…” Note that Obama’s photograph does not appear in the school’s yearbook, and Obama consistently declines requests to talk about his years at Columbia, provide school records, or provide the name of any former classmates or friends while at Columbia. *

Sounds like a movie script except for the fact that I can’t find a refutation. Any Dopers have one?

Yeah, how about one from Wayne Allyn Root’s own blog in February 2008:

“Let’s now compare the stories of two young men who graduated Columbia University on the exact same day in June, 1983. Both were children of non-priviledged backgrounds.”

Let’s see what that expensive college education did for you, as in an “education”, shall we?

“graduated Columbia University”? What, did you fill it up with water and mark it along the sides: 1 litre, 100 litres, 1,000 litres?

Or, you dork, do you mean you “graduated from Columbia University”? You were, I know, “of non-priviledged background” so I guess that’s why not only don’t you use the words “graduated from” but you can’t bloody spell, either.

Jeezus Murphy.

Unless Wayne Allan Root can read the minds of the entire Class of '83, he cannot know this. It’s such obviously bullshit I find it stunning it could be repeated on this board.

Incidentally, Obama has publically stated he didn’t socialize much at Columbia.

Yep. Here’s an interesting article written for Columbia College Today right after Obama became a Senator.

(rolling my eyes) Not THIS sore loser conspiracy drivel again!?

Look, I know you’re moderating this, but you’ve got to understand that people who participate in Straight Dope forums are a breed of cat with a slightly higher IQ than your average Air America kool-aid drinker.

Saying that the Supremes “chose” the outcome of the 2000 election is showing complete ignorance – or oversimplification – of the facts. Either that, or you are making a boldface (though transparent) attempt at revisionist history. It discredits anything that comes after when you do that.

I don’t have to revise history. The truth IS part of history. It’s the right who want to revise history. To quote a fellow doper…

By the way, you might want to read Vincent Bugliosi’s book The Betrayal of America: How the Supreme Court Undermined the Constitution and Chose Our President.

If you don’t want to read the whole book, you can read the article that inspired the book, None Dare Call It Treason.
