My sweetie got home before 6:30, ate a turkey wing and leg, and has buried himself in his Harley catalogs. I have done some knitting. Much chillage ensues. Also chocolate - daughter dropped off some of the swag from her students. 😃 ---

Christ on a cracker, what a long and crappy week. Very long days; 14 hours at work or more, and I’ll be heading back in tomorrow and Sunday. Next week will be more of the same. I’d go in on Monday, but I’ve been told I can’t because it’s a holiday. The stress meter is pegged past the top and is broken. ---

What a messed up week. This week one of our four shooters was off on vacation. Monday was a fairly normal night, no real problems though I felt a bit off. By Wednesday it was apparent I was having a kidney stone attack, which made me unhappy, though by Friday it had calmed down. In the midst of this Tuesday got a lot worse as word come in that one of our nightside shooters had been the victim of a hit & run Monday night as he drove home from work in SE DC (Suitland Pkwy & Naylor Mill for those who would know it). His car was totalled, and although he wasn’t hospitalized, he was roughed up enough to stay home the rest of the week. By Friday I was feeling better and most certainly looking forward to the weekend when, well, one of the most FUCKED UP THINGS I HAVE EVER HAD TO DEAL WITH AT WORK happened. And the sad thing is it’s really kind of stupid, but I am left speechless as to why & who would do what they did. Our shop, like many, has a fairly liberal ‘share the goodies’ tradition. There are three locations where community food is placed in the newsroom, and all are fair game for the masses; a table near the kitchen, on the assignment desk, and in microwave control. After our afternoon meeting I came down from the 3rd floor conference room and spotted a bag of what I thought was lemon taffy. A quick glance showed the bag was labelled in what appeared to be chinese writing. Without a second thought I popped one in my mouth and was immediately struck with a rancid, nasty taste & odor. I spit it out, fortunately not having chewed it, and thought ‘well that was odd’ and went on my day. FIVE HOURS LATER, as I found myself still nauseated and unable to eat anything, I finally wandered back over to the bag in hopes of finding out what may have been this candy I tried to eat. Lo and behold, as I picked up the bag and looked it over, I found one single word of english I recognized. **Durian.** Fucking **durian candy**. Some son of a bitch, in full knowledge of what this shit is , dumped a bag of durian candy in our newsroom for their coworkers to eat. I am beyond words. Here it is ten hours later and I still taste it in my mouth. I had it in there for 5 seconds. I still can’t eat. Thank god it’s the weekend… ---

Saturday morning of a 3-day weekend and I’m up well before 5 because of this stupid dog. She was howling and whining - obviously needed to go out - and apparently I was the only one in the house who could hear her. So I got up, took her out, and despite my best efforts, she wouldn’t calm down, so I’m up and she’s wandering around getting into things. Idiot dog. I’m waiting till after 5 to feed her - I don’t want to mess her schedule up too much. With luck, after food, she’ll crash again and I can try for a few more hours of sleep. Yeah, right. \*\*tugig \*\*- the lesson here is never NEVER eat an unknown substance - EVER!! Or, as your momma should have told you: “Don’t put that in your mouth - you don’t know where it’s been!!!” 😃 It rained overnight - glad I covered our firewood, because we’re going to be doing some projects downstairs, and warm is better than cold. I’ll need to take the wagon to the woodpile and get a supply, but at least it’s dry-ish. \*\*FCD \*\*talked to his boss who assured him that he’s worrying unnecessarily about our jobs, but a worry-wort will worry. So I looked at our finances and we can survive on my pension and our savings for about 3 years before having to touch our 401k accounts, so that’s a relief. Of course, by survive, I mean we’ll have to cut back on eating out and buying toys, but we can cover our expenses with a few extra bucks a month for some fun, so that’s reassuring. Provided, of course, that our appliances don’t all decide to die at once… Anyway, a tad less stressful, but still, I don’t want to be up at this hour. This is beyond blurf. Yeah, yeah, happy freekin’ Saturday. 😛 ---

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. _YAWN_ ‘Tis 40 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 55 for the day. Right now there is a very light sprinkle goin’ on which could become rain in a little while. This is what they say could be rain mixed with a little snow. If’n it happens I doubt it’ll be noticeable and besides the rain, if it happens, will be gone by late mornin’. Still I’ve been hearin’ "OMG!!! It might **SNOW!!!** from people since yestiddy afternoon. :rolleyes: OYKW, however, is all “If I see even one tiny flake I get French toast!” Yeah, he’s a grown man on the outside but on the inside he’s five years old. 😃 **giggity** my first thought was what **MOOOOOOM** said. Didn’t your mother ever tell you not to put that in your mouth, you don’t know where it’s been? 😃 Now I need more caffiene and rumbly tummy wants to be fed.
