# The term "86'd it"

I did a search for this, but it said there were too few words:

Where does the term “86’d” come from? Like, “Yeah, I 86’d my cell phone because it cost too much money”

This was answered by **Cecil** himself some time ago.

It was also discussed in [this](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=178567) thread from yesterday.

The trouble with searching may have been that the board search tool requires you to enter words longer than three letters, so ‘86’ doesn’t cut it.
