Speaking as an adult female…(and a BLONDE female, at that!) Yep, it’s quite fair to say, in general, the male of the species has a special fascination with sex, and very likely at some point in their lives have prevaricated, bargained, paid or pled for said sex…AND I LOVE THEM FOR IT! ---

I have daughters, but they are too young to have the talk with. I do plan on sitting down with them and talking about sex. This talk will include my opinion that teenage boys will say and do anything to get in their pants and they should take everything said with a big huge grain of salt. I will also talk to them (a lot, all the time, and in fact, I already have) about the ebb and flow of life. By this I mean that there will be crushes and loves in high school, a first lover, live-in partners, and maybe even a lifetime mate. All of these things will come and it important to let them flow though their lives without impeding it. There is also high school, proms, travel with friends and family, summer camps, living abroad, college, grad school, careers, etc… I will communicate to my girls (at least I hope) that love and lust are a normal and fun part of life that needs to be dealt with responsibly. Hopefully my communication will prepare them for their lives and they will be safe, have fun, and be loved. I would rather have my daughters date as teenagers than not, so I will not be overprotective. This is my plan at least. Of course, **lurking guest** probably thinks I am full of shit and I am going to lock my daughters up with lots of books on ponies for company only to have them sneak out and be raped by the first boy with honey on his tongue. Is this about right? On another note, did you ever see the movie _The Virgin Suicides_ **guest**? ---

Lots of fathers don’t talk to their daughters about sex, nor to their sons. While I naturally expect foresight and thoughtfulness to reign on the Dope, plenty of men are uncomfortable with the idea of their daughters having sex at all, and convince themselves that any discussion will be better handled “later, when she’s old enough” or by her mother. Others will just refuse to talk about sex or dating, aside from dire warnings to stay away from boys:“she’s a good girl – she’ll listen to me.” However, just because it’s common doesn’t mean that it’s reasonable to walk into any particular place and accuse all of the men in it of such behavior. ---
