The Time Traveler's Wife movie...how bad will it be? [SPOILERS]

I think that they definitely realized that they had shot a human, but what I got from it was that her father and brother shot the old Henry, who disappeared after, and then the second Henry showed up and was like “Yo, you just shot my future self. Let me explain.” and kind of let the cat out of the bag there, which was the entry when Claire was around thirteen(?) and confused as to why the three of them were standing outside with so much blood. But I guess that either way, whether they got a good look at the dying Henry or the young Henry, it works.

I didn’t get the impression Henry explained anything to the father and brother. There were several people who were in on Henry’s condition, but I never got they were two of them. They seemed disconcerted by Henry’s showing up with Clare that first time for Christmas, like they had no idea what sort of weird trick this was. At the scene of the hunting accident, I thought maybe they were so intent on looking at the wounded Henry, or where he had been, that they did not really notice the other Henry standing back.

But hold on! Haven’t returned the book to the library yet – the wife will read it next – but I’m suddenly remembering something now about the three of them walking toward the house together. I’m too lazy to try to find that in the book; does anyone else remember that?

It’s been a while since I read the book, and I’m glad I didn’t read it again before watching the movie. I loved the book and there was just no way the movie could be as good. However, I do think they did a great job with it - this book had to have been really hard to translate to the screen.

I saw it last weekend, and I want to go see it again. I absolutely balled for the last thirty minutes of the film. Every time there was silence in the theater, you could hear people sniffling.

Yes, I bet they were mesmerized watching you and your date.

Another dude checking in here. I read the book and really, really liked it. I would never have cast Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana as Clare and Henry, had I been asked (my picks would’ve been, hmmm, maybe Anne Hathaway and James McAvoy), but thought they did pretty well with their roles. The girls who played Alba were perfect. I would’ve liked to have had Ingrid (the crazy ex-girlfriend) in the movie, and more on Clare’s family, and Mrs. Kim, and to have seen that concluding scene with Henry visiting Clare when she’s very old, but thought it was pretty true to the novel otherwise and was a good adaptation. Frankly, I’m glad they dropped the scene with Gomez jumping on a still-mourning Clare. I’d give the flick a solid “B.”

I was a little confused by the depiction of Henry’s time travelling as well…at one point he gets trapped in the interior of a elevator mechanism, a great fear of his, if I recall correctly a younger version of himself comes down from the office and explains the situation to his disbelieving workmates.

Wouldn’t the younger version of Henry remember this incident before he is the older version of himself who gets trapped?

It’s playing in Bangkok now, and the wife and I saw it yesterday afternoon (Saturday afternoon). We both read the book and think the film was done well.

I hadn’t read the book and neither did my two friends who went with me to see it.

The most notable part was how creepy it was to have a guy keep going back in time to his 7 year old future wife.

We thought the movie was flat and dragged.

We both agreed you really needed to have read the book to get the most out of it.
