The Tony Awards On Sunday: Anyone Going To Watch?

After seeing him Sunday night, I think I might be taking him in the Death Pool.

I’ve heard good things about Wedding Singer - not that it’s a brilliant show or anything, but it’s at least pretty fun to watch. The cast definitely looked like they were having a great time, though.

And while I agree the Wedding Singer song didn’t make me want to buy tickets for that show, I thought the song(s) from The Color Purple were very good, and despite the reviews, it made me think the show might be worthwhile to see…but I am a sucker for large cast choirs, in period costumes, belting out a good song with a cool set in the background.

Also, Harry Connick Jr. showed he can’t dance worth crap in the scene from that musical. Looked like he had a stick up his butt, especially considering he was surrounded by obvious dance professionals.

Quashed, quenched, or squelched?

I was rooting for Drowsy myself, but it had 3 strikes against it:

  1. It came from Canada. If it had originated in NY or London it’d have done better.
  2. It had original music that was “meh” and mostly served the comedy, rather than adapting pre-existing music that was strong on its own.
  3. It kidded the industry to a certain degree. You don’t kid the industry.

Whatever - I hope and predict it will be a big hit. It’s a lot of fun!

Try telling that to the cast of Forbidden Broadway.

:smack:

Yeah, make fun of me :stuck_out_tongue:  . I thought that sounded odd.

I’m looking forward to seeing Drowsy. We’re trying to plan a trip for this fall, and if we can find a sitter for the kiddo, that’s one of the shows on my list.

Well, it did win 5 out of the 13 awards it was nominated for, so at least it didn’t get snubbed. I, too, hope (and predicted when we saw it) that it will be a big hit – then it’ll be more likely to go on tour and we’ll get to see it again (and again, and again!).

Lieutenant had 5 nominations and was shut out. My friend who is in the play stumbled home drunk at 4 in the morning, or so he tells me. Much morosity all around.
