I started this thread but several other people that posted to it said that it should go on the “best of” lists. At nearly 300 responses, [What Famous Thing Suprised You When You Saw It In Person?](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=306022&highlight=famous) I believe that it would be in the running for the most independent well-thought responses that didn’t depend on previous posts in the thread. It is also probably the longest thread that didn’t get hijacked or ever end up with with more drive-by’s than actual responses after the first few pages. ---

Most of my favorites have been nominated – plus, I’m honored to see that the only Pit thread in which I am named has been mentioned (the Food Nazi one).
