I just saw a commercial for [Tornado Air](http://www.tornadoair.com/).

It a fan-like device you put in the airbox of your vehicle. It’s supposed to improve the airflow and increase the performance of your engine.

What do you auto Dopers think?

Ask yourself this, with all the fuss over getting better gas milage, if this device worked wouldn’t it be installed on all cars at the factory?

Nope, it’s a complete an utter scam.

Yep. Total BS. Consumer Reports did a thing on them last year.

After I posted the Op, I found out that Popular Mechanics tested the device in their magazine last month.

> [@Popular Mechanics](#):

> THE DYNO SAYS: Both devices reduced peak horsepower by more than 10 percent. The Intake Twister increased fuel consumption by about 20 percent; the TornadoFuelSaver provided no significant change.

What’s sad is that Sam Memolo (host of Two Guys Garage) is whoring this thing.

This incarnation of his show (previously Crank & Chrome and Shadetree Mechanic) is more product placement oriented. I don’t have a big problem with that, but they don’t do the useful stuff they used to (basically showing the average schmoe how to fix his car).
